High Potential won a third-season renewal from ABC, although it’s being held until mid-season in 2027. That means fans have to wait a while for the conclusion to various cliffhangers and mysteries, including the fate of one major character.
Among the questions is whether heroine Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) will find love. By her own admission, Morgan isn’t the best at romance thanks to how her genius mind makes it harder for her to settle down with anyone, despite raising two kids.
Yet from the start of the series, there’s always been a spark between Morgan and her LAPD partner Karadec (Daniel Sunjata). The two are close friends and have some great banter, although season 2 saw Karadec reconnect with old flame Lucia (Susan Kelechi Watson). That seemed to spark some feelings in Morgan.
At the same time, Morgan was hitting it off with new Captain Nick Wagner (Steve Howey), including a kiss on an elevator. Fans are curious as to what will happen next, and that includes the stars!

At the Disney Upfront presentation, TV Insider spoke with Javicia Leslie (who plays Detective Daphne Forrester) and Deniz Akdeniz (who portrays Detective Lev "Oz" Özdil) about the season and how they feel about Team Karadec vs. Team Wagner.
Leslie didn’t hesitate to say, “I’m low-key kind of shipping Morgan and Wagner… I thought that was a hot a-- couple… like that elevator scene was crazy.”
Akdeniz made the more intriguing announcement that “you gotta be Team Morgan.” Leslie agreed with that as well.
“I am team whatever… Morgan worked her behind off to be a mom, to be what she is for us… I’m just team her happiness. So if it is Wagner, great, and if it’s Karadec, great. Just as long as she’s happy and she’s able to do what she does.”
Of course, this all may be moot as season 2 ended with Wagner being stabbed, and it seems Howey has left the show. There’s also the long-range mystery of Morgan’s missing boyfriend, Roman, with the last scene of season 2 hinting he might finally be found. Not to mention how Karadec is reeling from the discovery that Lucia was using him as part of a criminal plot. While that may open the door for him and Morgan, Karadec may also be avoiding risking another heartbreak so soon.
We have a long wait to see how it falls out, yet it’s interesting how the High Potential stars think Morgan is good on her own rather than with another man to show where the show’s heart lies.
High Potential season 3 premieres on ABC in 2027.
