After the shocking events of the Matlock season 2 finale, there are changes coming when the hit CBS legal drama returns for season 3, both on screen and behind the scenes.
Not only will Matlock season 3 not premiere until early 2027 after the series was benched from the Fall 2026 schedule, but the upcoming third season will be the show's shortest yet. Going from 19 episodes in season 1 to 16 episodes in season 2, season 3 will only contain 13 episodes. Since it's debuting midseason, it's not a surprise, but there's less time to explore much more.
Keeping the promise shared ahead of the season 2 finale, the series put the Wellbrexa storyline to bed as everything came to a head. Matty, Olympia, and Julian were able to take down Senior and his associates. Of course, that meant Julian took some of the fall, too, though thanks to the character development he experienced throughout season 2, he was happily willing to do what's right.
But moving into Matlock season 3, what's next for these characters now that the driving force behind Matty's entrance into their lives has been resolved? Well, if Skye P. Marshall had her way, her character will be having a bit of fun, as she revealed in a new interview.

Skye P. Marshall hopes Olympia dates Langston in Matlock season 3
Speaking with on-screen ex-husband Jason Ritter at Variety's FYC TV Fest event, Marshall opened up about what she hopes to see for Olympia in Matlock season 3. While she could have spoken about the future of Olympia's career and the possibility of her opening up her own firm with Matty, Marshall had other ideas about Olympia's life—her personal life.
Throughout the first two seasons of Matlock, we haven't seen Olympia in a relationship. When the series began, she was still navigating post-divorce life and co-parenting with Julian. But in season 2, Olympia started dating and, at the end of the season, took particular interest in Langston, who is played by Marshall's real-life husband Edwin Hodge. Marshall wants to see more of that.
"You know, my character Olympia, she is a warrior and a mess, and most days, she's both," Marshall began. "And I want to see, what is that balance like in a relationship? Because my man, my husband, Edwin Hodge, he popped in and played Langston and I was like, 'Oh, wait a minute.'"
Marshall joked that after Hodge joined the cast as Langston, she made a picture of him in character her phone's wallpaper. Hodge dressed differently and changed his voice to bring the character to life, and Marshall managed to make her husband jealous about her affinity for his character. But it's all in good fun as she simply wants to see the character open something up for Olympia.
"I feel that working women always have to negotiate when it comes to their time at work and dating and being intimate and not having to sacrifice one for the other. I know this, I was a corporate woman in my late 20s, and I knew what that felt like being a corporate woman in New York City."
She elaborated that she didn't make time to be in a relationship or entertain the idea of dating since she was so busy with work. In that regard, she relates to Olympia pushing that part of her life aside as she balances her high-powered career with parenting her children with Julian. Marshall hopes to see Olympia make time and space for her personal life in season 3 and "be cute and flirty."
That would be a big change for Olympia, and it's the perfect time for Matlock to mix up her storyline and include a love interest. Olympia beginning a new relationship would change a number of the character dynamics. With Julian possibly serving time, would he be jealous of her moving on? How would a romantic partner change her friendship with Matty? Does it impact her work?
Hopefully, these are new aspects of Olympia's character that are explored in Matlock season 3, which will feature a time jump and fresh mystery for viewers to unpack.
