Fans of NCIS: Sydney are going to have to wait longer for the Season 2 premiere! Find out when it airs!
After a long holiday break, CBS will start its midseason schedule this January. A big change is on Friday nights as, for the first time since 2011, there will be no more episodes of Blue Bloods as the series ended its 14-season run in December 2024.
The new Friday schedule will start with Season 2 of NCIS: Sydney at 8/7c, followed by Fire Country and SWAT settling into Blue Bloods’ timeslot. It was set to start on Friday, Jan. 31, but there is a change.
It’s a big move for NCIS: Sydney. The international spinoff took advantage of the 2023 Hollywood strikes to air in the fall of CBS, making it the only NCIS series on the air at that time. It wrapped up in November of 2023 with a renewal and CBS waited for the midseason to premiere it.
NCIS: Sydney season 2 will now start later
However, per TVLine, CBS has now announced that the season 2 premiere of NCIS: Sydney will air one week later on Friday, Feb. 7. Fire Country and SWAT are expected to air new episodes as scheduled.
As of now, CBS has simply said there will be a “new special” taking on the 8/7c time slot. It’s possible this may be a charity event to support those affected by the California wildfires.
It should be noted that Thursday, Jan. 30 will be FireAid, a huge benefit concert that boasts stars like Lady Gaga, Billie Ellish, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Sting, and more. That will be streamed live on Netflix, Amazon, Paramount+, and other streaming sites.
It’s possible CBS may offer some sort of edited version of the special the day after. It could also be an original special, perhaps a 60 Minutes highlighting the firemen and those affected by the disaster. Another possibility is that it’s an original telethon event with various CBS stars encouraging donations from viewers.
Expect more details on that, but it does mean one more week for fans of NCIS: Sydney to see the conclusion to its first season cliffhanger.
What’s coming on NCIS: Sydney
For those who forgot, Season 1 ended with the team racing to rescue JD’s kidnapped son. It ended with the revelation that Colonel Rankin appeared to be tied in with a planned terrorist attack.
The synopsis for the Season 2 premiere, "Heart Starter", indicates that DeShawn Jackson will now be stepping up as the team boss as they try to stop this plot.
“NCIS: Sydney will do whatever it takes to crack the case of a rogue assassin on the run during NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson’s chaotic first day as boss.”
It should be noted that NCIS: Sydney Season 2 will only have eight episodes. Thus, a one-week delay will help it line up with SWAT and Fire Country in terms of new episodes airing each Friday, and all wrap up at about the same time.
It’s only a one-week delay, so fans of NCIS: Sydney just have to be patient a bit longer to see the spinoff return for more adventures Down Under.
