911 season 7 episode 6 recap: Did Chimney and Maddie make it down the aisle?
By Cody Schultz
We knew Maddie and Chimney's wedding day was going to be memorable, but we never expected that it would be memorable because the groom went missing!
As the episode begins, we pick up where the previous episode left off with Buck and Eddie showing up dazed and confused at the wedding venue without Chimney. Turns out the pair had quite a wild night at the bachelor party, the only problem is Chimney never arrived and they have no idea where he is.
We then see Chimney sitting in his parked car on the side of the road looking equally as dazed and confused as Buck and Eddie, but we’re not sure why. It looks like a good samaritan is going to help him out but instead, he steals Chimney’s car and drives away.
After nearly getting hit by a bus when walking into the road to get his phone, it becomes clear that something is seriously wrong with Chimney as he can’t seem to remember anything and keeps saying he’s late for work.
Athena is now on the case and helps Maddie investigate. An officer finds his crushed phone and they realize there are some security cameras in the area, so Maddie and Hen head to the 911 dispatch center to look into things. It’s here that they witness Chimney almost get hit by the bus and then get on it. They track the bus down and are surprised to see Chimney talking to himself seeming to hint that he’s hallucinating.
This was indeed the case as Chimney began hallucinating Maddie’s abusive ex-husband Doug, who said he found the perfect gift for Maddie: a knife that she could use to stab him in the back.
Chimney has encephalitis (and here's what means)
After getting off the bus, Chimney ends up looking for a karaoke bar where he used to work. He talks with a baker who tells him the karaoke bar burned down years ago. Before they can talk any further, Chimney sees Doug again and runs off.
Athena catches up with the bakery owner who tells him about Chimney’s rambles which is when Hen realizes that Chimney used to work at the karaoke bar years ago and worries that he’s forgotten 20 years of his life. It’s then that she realizes that they recently encountered someone else who had forgotten years of their life: a man was trapped in the air ducts and seemed to have forgotten years of his life thinking his fiance had cheated on him when in fact they had divorced 17 months ago.
Hen called the hospital to check on the patient and discovered that he had been diagnosed with viral encephalitis. They worry that Chimney contracted the virus when treating the patient in close quarters and that he needs immediate treatment so that he doesn’t die like the patient.
For those who don’t know what viral encephalitis is – like me – it’s an inflammation of the brain which is usually caused by a viral infection. Thus why Chimney is struggling to remember things as his brain is under attack and is not working correctly.
911 had fans worrying Chimney was leaving
After learning that Chimney has encephalitis and is in need of immediate treatment, our concerns began rising right away!
As the team worked to find Chimney, he witnessed a car accident and immediately snapped into action helping victims. It was as if the switch had been flipped and his training kicked in as he helped as many victims as possible. He races off again when he sees Doug and misses Bobby, Buck, Eddie, and Athena, who showed up at the accident scene looking for Chimney.
Chimeny begins to see Doug again who makes him think that he’s in trouble as his hands and shirt are covered in blood from helping the victims at the crash. His mind tricks him into thinking Buck is looking for him because he’s done something wrong. As Doug tells him he’s sick in the head, Chimney passes out and our heart rates spiked!
When Chimney comes to, he sees his brother Kevin who tells him to get up and go home. Chimney musters up the strength to get home, just not to his home with Maddie but to his parent’s home. His parents walk in and see Chimney who keeps asking where Kevin is before he passes out again.
Fortunately, his parents got him to the hospital in time and when Chimney wakes up Maddie is there waiting for him. After fumbling his words, making us panic for a minute that he suffered permanent brain damage, he tells Maddie he’s sorry he missed their wedding day.
That’s right, he remembers everything and he promptly tells Maddie that he doesn’t want to wait another day to marry her. The pair get married in the hospital surrounded by family and friends in the most beautiful hospital wedding ceremony we’ve ever seen!
