A new Law and Order show is coming to iHeart (and it's not a rewatch podcast)!
By Sabrina Reed
Law and Order is joining the podcast party that broadcast staples have been delving into as of late. Though before you start thinking this is yet another rewatch pod announcement, let me tell you its not. The flagship series isn't being recapped from the beginning or through a nostalgic dive into fan favorite episodes or storylines that impacted how cases are depicted on television. No, the podcast that's dropping on Friday, August 22 is more in line with what 48 Hours: NCIS will offer listeners in October.
Deadline reports that Law & Order: Criminal Justice System will have four 12 episodes seasons which is certainly something to look forward to whether you're a fan of the franchise or are a true crime enthusiast. Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment struck a deal with iHeartPodcasts to launch the pod which will be hosted by Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi.
Nicolazzi is a former homicide prosecutor from Brooklyn so it's fitting that the series will start with an exploration of the American Mafia in the Big Apple during the late '70s. Picture this, it's 1979 and the crime organization's grip on New York is felt everywhere. But then Carmine Galante is assassinated. With "a powerful boss in the Bonanno crime family" no longer in play and a high profile murder on the table, the odds begin to turn in law enforcement's favor.
Galante's assassination was the "cornerstone" of the Mafia Commission Trial which was the case that changed the game for police and brought an end to a golden era of crime for the Mafia. It was an "unlikely team of young local police and prosecutors" that made this happen. Listeners will get first hand accounts of what happened during the investigations as well as information on the personal sacrifices those involved with the case made. This will also include accounts of the surveillance done on the Mafia and the legal battles that were waged.
As you can see from the synopsis for season 1, Law & Order: Criminal Justice System plans to entice those who tune in with history. The podcast's focus is on groundbreaking police work and cases that shifted the dynamic between those who've alluded the law and those who've brought them to justice. So, if you need something to hold you over until Law and Order and Law and Order: SVU come back on Thursday, Oct. 3 this is the pod for you!
A premiere date for Law and Order: Organization season 5 has yet to be announced. However, it will be moving to Peacock, hence why it's not on NBC's Fall TV schedule. We'll keep you posted as more information comes in. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote and follow us on X!
