5 ABC shows not coming back in 2024 that we'll miss in the fall

Whether it's canceled shows or those held for the midseason, there are some shows that we're going to miss not being part of the fall lineup. Here are the five that will hurt the most.

ABC has made some major changes to the fall 2024 lineup. Some of these changes are due to canceled and ending shows, but other changes are due to episode counts and the need to run without breaks. It’s led to some shows that won’t be in the fall that we’ll miss.

Two of the shows on this list came to an end after seven great seasons. And we’re not ready for them to end. In fact, if it was up to us, they wouldn’t come to an end, and the fall is going to feel weird without them.

Let’s take a look at the shows we’re going to miss this fall (and permanently, for those canceled).

Station 19

The TGIT lineup has been all about Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 for so long that it’s going to feel odd not having one of those shows airing this year. Even when we had to wait until the midseason, at least we knew we would get to see more of the firefighters of Seattle. That’s all changing this year.

Station 19 is ending after seven seasons. It doesn’t even feel like the show has had time to fully wrap up storylines either. Andy has finally become captain, Maya has finally gained the character development she deserves, and the station finally feels like it’s coming back as a family after seasons of it being a little fractured. Can’t we have more time?

The Good Doctor

The Good Doctor is one of those medical dramas that isn’t afraid to show the realities of the American healthcare system and how it often doesn’t work. We get to see it all through the eyes of someone who doesn’t fully get social expectations and life as we all see it, which gave the writers a chance to explain things better. Shaun comes across as judgmental, but sometimes, he just wants to understand areas that he’s not an expert in.

The series delivered a powerful episode and storyline in the final season. This is something we need more of, and this is the first fall in seven years that we won’t see the series. Yeah, I’m not counting fall 2023 due to the writers strike and pretty much everything being delayed to the midseason. The spring of 2024 became the fall.

Not Dead Yet

Granted, Not Dead Yet wasn’t a fall series. That didn’t mean we weren’t looking forward to it getting a chance to air this fall. That chance was squashed when the series was abruptly canceled by ABC.

The series brought us a great perspective on life. The dead would share things they wish they did, regrets they had, and lessons they’d learned in the afterlife. These were experiences that we could all take something. This could have been a great comedy series in a lineup that has limited comedy on ABC for the fall.

The Rookie

There are a few fall shows that are being held for the midseason in the 2024-2025 TV season, and The Rookie is one of them. Now, Will Trent is also being held, but that wasn’t a fall show to begin with, so we won’t include that one on this list. The Rookie has always been a fall show, and it would have likely been in 2023 had the strikes not taken place.

The change to the midseason could be a good thing. It means the show can run from the start of 2025 until May without a break, which allows us to stay with the flow and fully enjoy the series. We just want Chenford back together in the fall rather than have to wait until 2025 to see if it happens.

The Conners

One fall comedy that isn’t coming back in 2024 is The Conners. The series is being held for the midseason, and it won’t feel right not checking in with them right away. This could be a blessing in disguise, though. If ABC was determined for it to air in the fall, we may not have gotten the final season at all.

Yes, The Conners season 7 is the last. It is a much shorter season than others, with current reports stating six episodes. This is due to scheduling conflicts for the stars, which when you look at the likes of John Goodman in the show, it’s not surprising that there are going to be those conflicts. At least we’ll get a final season to say goodbye to the characters.
