The Conners season 7: Everything we know about the final season so far

All good things must come to an end, and that’s the case with the Roseanne spin-off The Conners. The series will wrap with one last season airing in the 2024-2025 TV season.

The comedy was created off the back of the Roseanne revival. Roseanne Barr’s racist remarks at the time led to the revival being canceled after one season, but the show’s producers didn’t want to end the series completely for the rest of the cast. So, they were able to negotiate Barr’s exit to create this spin-off series, killing Roseanne offscreen to start a story of the family grieving and finding a way forward with their lives.

There were fears that the series would fail, but that wasn't the case. While the spin-off has been a success, there were signs that it was gradually coming to an end. This latest round of renewals showed as much since The Conners was one of the last ABC shows on the bubble.

The Hollywood Reporter shared the news that the series was renewed for season 7. That season will be the last, and it will be the shortest of all seasons of the series. It has had a good run. The Wednesday, May 22 episode will be the season 6 finale and mark 106 episodes.

How many episodes will The Conners final season have?

While the outlet shared that it would be the shortest season, it didn’t report the exact episode count. Variety doesn’t have anything official from the series, but sources say that it will only have six episodes. This was something Deadline had previously warned fans about, so six sounds about right even if it is crazy short for a comedy.

The shortest season to date was the first with just 11 episodes. The only reason this most recent season only had 13 episodes was due to the strike action during the summer of 2023.

Who will return for the final run?

John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, and Lecy Goranson are expected to return for the final season. It was due to scheduling of the cast that took the renewal so long. After all, it wouldn’t really work without the likes of Goodman! We’re hoping to see Jay R. Ferguson and Katey Segal to return for the final season as well.

Executive producer and showrunner Bruce Helford had previously requested enough time to craft a real ending for the characters. That would mean getting as many of the cast members back as possible for the final season. After all, as one of the only spin-offs to make it to the 100-episode milestone and still a ratings win for the network, it deserves that type of ending.

When could The Conners premiere its final season?

ABC has now confirmed its fall season and The Conners isn't on there. The only comedy in the fall schedule is Abbott Elementary. It does make sense holding the half-season to the midseason, and this is likely linked to filming schedules as well as the network schedule.
