All American season 6 will be longer than expected (episode count update!)
Good news for fans of All American as season 6 is going to be longer than originally expected! Find out more details here!
The CW has been pretty chaotic in the last few years as the merger with Nexstar has led to scores of shows being canceled. The network has shifted its focus to sports, reality TV, and acquisitions though it's slowly increasing its scripted programming with co-productions like Sullivan's Crossing and the upcoming series Joan and Good Cop/Bad Cop.
The situation has become more complicated because the networks are still reeling from the fallout of the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Which is why it's so impressive that All American still sticks around on the CW. Critics and audiences alike have loved the story of Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) working his way from a Compton high school to a college star with his eye on the NFL.
Season 6 had a bold start, jumping a year and a half in the future from the season 5 finale and has the gang adjusting to junior year of college, with Spencer already making plans to enter the NFL draft. The season still airing even though the spin-off All American: Homecoming is having its third season delayed until later in the summer.
A new report from Deadline indicates that All American has a good chance for a renewal, in comparison to the remaining pre-Nexstar era originals, as it has a path forward to continue on even if a new cast will take over. The CW seems confident as well to extend the episode order!
How many episodes are now in All American season 6?
Per the Deadline article, season 6 has been extended from 13 episodes to 15. That's good news for fans worried about the strikes cutting into planned storylines. This will extend the show's run further into summer. The extra time, per the outlet, gives the show time to "flesh out the story better and build toward a satisfying conclusion."
Those words may worry fans about the possibility this could be the show's last season. Thankfully, the article indicates it has the best chance of the current CW crop earning a renewal thanks to its good following and the show having a higher licensing fee (1-1.5 million dollars per episode), which give it a larger budget.
There is the chance that season 7 could bring in a new cast, which would make sense as most of the others will have moved on from college life. Again, it's tricky to tell, but at the least, it means All American's season 6 run is going to be a bit longer to continue one of the best CW hits.
