An arrest has been made on Bold and the Beautiful (but did Baker get the real killer?)

The LAPD believe they're one step closer to shutting the book on the Il Giardino Killer case thanks to the evidence Katie Logan provided Chief Baker. When her nephew RJ told her that Poppy was in possession of Tom Starr's backpack which contained letters where he declared himself Luna's father, she immediately hopped into action and called the police.

On Monday, Aug. 12's episode of The Bold and the Beautiful what Katie put into motion came to a head. She was in the middle of warning Bill about Poppy when said woman and Luna made themselves known at the entrance to the Spencer Mansion. Katie didn't back down from lodging her accusations against Poppy and she was later backed up by law enforcement when they arrived.

Baker, along with an officer in uniform, presented Tom's bag. And, in a moment that was purely soap opera, the police chief revealed that they'd found one of Poppy's compact mint tins in the backpack. Apparently, there's quick turnaround at the precinct's lab because he shared with the room that the mints were laced with the same narcotic that killed Tom and Hollis. On those grounds, Poppy was arrested.

Unfortunately, she left the mansion with no one on her side. Poppy found herself frantically asserting her innocence even to her own daughter--who was too quick to believe her mom is capable of committing a double homicide, in my opinion. Bill didn't even tell Poppy to not say anything and that he'd call his lawyer. Could that mean Poppy's on her own in this situation? I'm holding my reservations because it could have just been set-up that way to end the episode dramatically.

What I will launch into is if this makes a lick of sense. Katie has been adamant that Tom insisting that he's Luna's father and his threat to tell her about it was enough to send Poppy over the edge and that she killed him for it. Not in a crime of passion but cold, calculated murder. Hollis, therefore, would have been collateral damage.

Here's the thing though. Poppy wasn't the one who conducted the paternity test, her sister Li was. We've yet to be given any indication that the two women worked together to pull one over on Bill. And we likely won't considering all we know about the Nozawas. The sisters have a strained relationship, Li has refused to believe that there's anything real about Poppy's feelings for Bill and instead thinks she's just with him for his money. There's no way they'd team up to lie about who Luna's father really is , that would be hard to believe.

So Poppy would have no reason to "get rid of" Tom. Bill's Luna's father according to the test. A test that she, again, didn't manipulate to her favor. Focusing on that element removes motive from the table. It's also highly suspicious that a mint tin is the smoking gun. We saw a powder be poured into Tom's drink, there weren't any "special mints" or pills involved. Not to mention, why would Poppy be so terrible at covering her tracks that she not only kept Tom's bag in her apartment but also put the murder weapon in the very piece of luggage that would incriminate her?

There's clearly something else going on here. I smell a frame job. But given her arrest and how she was left out there on her own by the two people who love her the most, we could be in for relationship issues between her and Bill, and a fracture in her bond with her daughter. We'll see how this all unfolds this week.
