Station 19 appears to be done on ABC, but is there a chance Netflix could rescue the show? Here’s what we know!

Fans of Station 19 were hugely let down by the news the show would be ending with its seventh season. It also came as a surprise to the new showrunners, Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige, who were already struggling to alter plans for the year after the 2023 Hollywood strikes cut season 7 down to just ten episodes. Now, they have to figure out a proper ending for the series.

However, they’ve been doing their best, as season 7 has been delivering some fantastic drama. It’s begun with Jack forced into retirement after sustaining injuries in the season 6 premiere; Carina and Maya adopting an abandoned baby and adjusting to parenthood; inner conflicts on some rescues pitting the team against each other; and to top it all off, the Seattle mayor is threatening budget cuts, including layoffs

At its heart, captain Andy (Jaina Lee Ortiz) has been doing her best to handle it all, with the latest episode having her honored and a tribute to her late father. With the show at such a creative high, ending it feels so wrong for fans and the hope is the show can continue.

Those hopes were pushed by CBS, who made the surprise announcement that SWAT, canceled last year, will now get a full 22-episode eighth season. This sparks the possibility that Station 19 might somehow get another year, although it’s tricky since ABC acquired 911 and may not want two rescue shows on the same network, let alone the same night.

That’s where Netflix comes in as the show has been a success airing past seasons on the streamer. Could this revival actually happen?

Could Station 19 go to Netflix for season 8?

Besides airing reruns of the show, Netflix would also make sense as producer Shonda Rhimes has a development deal with them. If anything keeps Rhimes going to Netflix, it would be moving one of her hit shows over to them. It would also be easier for Netflix to acquire a show than start over from scratch as they’ve done in the past.

Speaking to TVLine, Clark and Paige said they hadn’t heard about any Netflix moves but would be happy to continue the show.

“They don’t tell us anything,” Clack insisted while adding that “we’ll happily go wherever it goes.”

“We would happily, happily, happily do another season if there were an opportunity to do it,” Paige added.

It’s hard to believe the producers aren’t trying to shop the series around, given its fanbase. The tricky thing would be that a move to Netflix or another network would mean an end to the regular Grey’s Anatomy crossovers, even minor ones of a Grey’s doctor popping up on Station 19 (which, sadly, might mean no more Miranda and Ben together on screen). It’s also tricky given the shifting priorities of Netflix and if they are really in the mood to take on production of a series with a lot of stunt work like Station 19.

However, this does show the series retains a big following, and the fact it’s doing so well both creatively and in the ratings (even with a different time due to 911) means the hopes of Station 19 continuing to remain are strong with fans so the final siren may not be sounding just yet.

Station 19 airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
