10 cities we'd love to see the next 911 spin-off to take place in
911 may be planning a new spinoff, and there are a lot of cities that could be terrific for the show!
911 has been doing well since jumping from Fox to ABC last year. Sadly, 911: Lone Star is being canceled after five seasons. However, this is not the end of the franchise as producer Ryan Murphy has confirmed he's planning another spinoff, telling Variety he has plans.
"[Series co-creator] Tim Minear and I are working on a new spinoff that we're actually writing, and that we hope to get on the air next fall. We're going to launch a new show in a new city that I can't name, but it's fun. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night. They obviously have an appetite for that, so we're going to give them another one that I really love."
So far, there's no word on where the show might take place. However, there are plenty of cities that can offer the sort of thrills a 911 show requires and be perfect for a city. These 10 cities alone can be great settings for a 911 show and should be considered for the future.
Las Vegas
This sounds like an obvious contender and it's easy to see why. Las Vegas has been used on TV plenty of times, from CSI to various shows titled after the city. From the lavish casinos and resorts to the plethora of amusement parks and museums to the desert nearby, it's easy fodder for a rescue show. The disasters can include anything from guests getting into strange mishaps to a stage magician's trick getting out of control to a wdesert storm. Sin City is made for a 911 show, and it would be no surprise this is the location they pick.
New Orleans
The Gulf Coast would be a fine choice for a 911 show. The location fits as there can be disasters at the local bays and docks using ships, which is fodder for some epic stunts. There are also the sports teams, pro and college, who can inspire some wild stuff. That's not to mention the vibrant nightlife, the parades, and the supernatural elements can come into play. Imagine an episode of the crew living in fear of the chaos of Mardi Gras and other events. The Big Easy would be an easy choice for a 911 show.
Miami
Florida is another obvious setting for a 911 show, and Miami seems the best bet. The ocean-based adventures are plentiful, not to mention the vibrant nightlife and tourism. The beaches can be packed with dangers, and they can explore other aspects of Miami's life. There's also the no-brainer of episodes involving a hurricane or Spring Break madness to make Miami an excellent spot for a 911 series.
Boston
Maybe it's time 911 moved to a setting that involves winter weather. Snow-based disasters can give more excitement to things and offer more challenges. For a city to use, Boston is a good choice as there's also plenty to use there in its long history, the sports teams and business spots. An easy episode would be the wild times at a Red Sox game, yet the brutal New England storms offer this area a shot at excitement the other 911 shows wouldn't and how winter has its own challenges.
Atlanta
So many TV shows film in Atlanta, so 911 might as well just set a show there. Using the Southern area can be a good idea, as Atlanta is known for weather varying from brutally hot summers to surprising winter chills. Heck, maybe they can use characters from the now-canceled The Resident for a mild crossover. It would make production easier and the vibrant life of Atlanta would fit a 911 show nicely.
Denver
The Mile High City has a lot of material for a TV show, and it's another metropolis that can be used for the winter weather with often harsh snowfalls. There's also simply the idea of a city so high up offering more challenges in the rescues and the mountains alone have plenty of story opportunities. From fires to lost hikers and more, the state is known for some beauty and danger alike, just what 911 fans love and make for a glorious high-stakes adventure.
Philadelphia
Philadelphia is a hot city right now with Abbott Elementary and other shows. So a 911 show set there seems likely too. The City of Brotherly Love has plenty of story material, from the infamously fanatic sports fandom to winter weather to the East Coast setting as well. It can be fun having scenes of historical reenactments gone wrong and maybe even a possible Abbott crossover in the works, so this can be a good choice.
Washington D.C.
This can seem wild, but a 911 series in our nation's capital can be unique. There's possible plotlines revolving around protests, parades and maybe our politicians. There's also a dynamic of the emergency guys having to handle the various federal agencies and enhanced security of D.C. Maybe the workers are hopeful they get a call to the White House and obvious political divisions inside the squad to add to the drama. Politics can be dirty, yet a 911 show in D.C. can make it crazier.
Nashville
"Music City" is another spot with so much material for a 911 series. The country music setting alone offers plenty with concerts and scores of festivals and fairs going on. There's the location by rivers that can be home to major disasters and the terrific Southern culture and sports teams are also fodder for some storylines. Not to mention it'd be easy to get some real country music stars to make cameos to spice things up and strike the right note for viewers.
Toronto
It seems inevitable we get an international version of 911 and it might as well be in Canada. Toronto is home to so many TV shows, so one more production won't hurt. There's the obvious idea of hard Canadian winters providing drama and maybe going into the wilderness to help people. There's also the fun idea of how Canada differs slightly from the U.S. in procedures and laws for different storylines. Expanding the franchise is likely going to be a big thing and Toronto is the most welcoming city.
911 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC.
