I don't know about y'all, but the record definitely scratched for me while watching July 24's episode of The Bold and the Beautiful. The moment happened when Bill paid Li a visit at the hospital. It was a bit unusual since the two generally don't seek the other out. But the conversation that happened between them left me raising my eyebrows and trying to part through the subtext in their words with a fine tooth comb.

The pair weren't exactly talking in riddles, but Li seemed overly glad that Bill is Luna's father and, in turn, he thanked her for conducting the paternity test for them. It produced the result they both wanted and he made sure to let her know that she's a part of the Spencer family now. As such, he'll be looking out for her. It was sweet sentiment, but I was stuck on the looks they were giving each other like two people who'd been up to something but who aren't willing to say what that actually was in plain terms.

While this could be the writers trying to throw us for a loop, and potentially seed that if Li had any involvement in what happened to Tom and/or Hollis that Bill will handle it and protect her, I'm not certain that's what that scene was about. I say this because it's been weird that Bill has been insistent on adopting Luna. We keep being told it's because he wants their relation to be recognized in the eyes of the government and make things official.

But we've been down this road with Bill twice before her. I don't remember him adopting either Liam or Wyatt. He simply put the paper work in to have their names changed. Like her brothers, Luna is an adult so adoption seems like an unnecessary measure. I've felt that way ever since the idea was introduced. However, the possibility that Bill ensured he got the results he wanted and intends on cementing his claim as Luna's father via adoption makes much more sense. It's also a move that would be right up Bill's alley.

The billionaire has been enamored with the idea that Luna could be his daughter for awhile now. He finds her to be a smart, kind, passionate and beautiful young woman who he wants to take under his wing and provide for like she's his own. Bill is definitely the type of man who wouldn't leave anything up to chance once he's set his mind on something, particularly if he looked into Poppy's background.

Never one to let things lie, it would not be surprising if Bill didn't take Poppy's words on being scared to tell him at face value. Katie has been pushing and expressing her feelings on how flat that explanation is. If she sees it that way, who's to say that Bill didn't as well? After all, none of what Poppy has been saying adds up. It only started making sense when we learned that she'd had a relationship with Tom and he'd been convinced that Luna is his daughter.

If she was ducking this man for 20+ years and concerned enough that he could be Luna's father to keep that part of her life secret, then her refusal to tell Luna at first and then her sudden desire to admit that Bill could be her dad makes sense. She and Bill were seeing each other, she may have been hoping that if they were in love, no matter the results he'd still be in their lives.

Poppy may have gambled right, but there's a lot she doesn't know about Bill. Namely that he can be manipulative and downright ruthless when it comes to what he wants. While I'm not necessarily sure that he feels as strongly about Poppy, he's certainly invested in being Luna's father. And when Bill's invested he would go as far as looking into your past, determining the man that could be Luna's biological father is unfit, orchestrating a whole production with your sister to make it seem like everything is on the up and up with the paternity test, and then adopting your daughter so that even if this all comes out she's legally his and no one can question it. That's classic Bill Spencer.

The Li of it all is what's confusing though. She said she loves Luna which...the jury is still out on that, Li rarely says a kind word about her but I digress. Taking her at her word, it's understandable that she'd do something duplicitous to ensure that Luna has one stable parent since Li's convinced Poppy is a mess and we all know Tom had some hard years before he got clean and started to rebuild his life. But that doesn't explain the scene she had with Katie where she was clearly rocked by the paternity test results.

This is a soap so we could be in the middle of a rewrite and have to take past scenes with a grain of salt, but if we are changing what happened, I hope the storyline they're setting us up for is good. The scene between Li and Bill could be promising a reveal that lands deliciously in the plot if done well.
