FBI fans are worried about Maggie's status this season. Is it possible Missy Peregrym is leaving the series?

The procedural has been able to make some good storylines despite the shortened episode count due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Among the plotlines has been Maggie thinking more about motherhood amid her job as an agent.

Maggie was pushed by a reunion with her old friend Jessica (Charlotte Sullivan), an anti-terrorism FBI agent she'd known for years. Jessica was happy raising her daughter, Ella, which had Maggie considering using IVF treatment to try for a family.

Things took a turn when Jessica collapsed during the hunt for someone using poison in the city. It turned out she was suffering from a brain aneurysm and wanted Maggie to look after Ella. Tragically, Jessica died during surgery, leaving Maggie to raise Ella.

Maggie has done her best but is clearly shaken by this sudden change in her life. When she was almost shot on a case, she confessed to OA it was different, wondering what would happen with Ella. That led Maggie to take off the last episode to take Ella to meet with relatives in Akron.

Fans are naturally worried this could be setting up Missy Peregrym leaving the show with Maggie wanting to raise Ella. So is she coming back?

Is Maggie returning to FBI?

Speaking to TVLine, Zeeko Zaki was quick to assure fans that Maggie will be returning for the season 6 finale.

"In the next one that airs, we do slip in a 'she's eager to get back to work,'" She is definitely eager."

There's no word of Peregrym wanting to leave so it may be the show is just giving her a bit of time off. It's not the first time as twice the show has written Maggie out for Peregrym's maternity leave. It doesn't sound like that's the case this time around so the actress seems to be on a scheduled break.

It's not uncommon for FBI to have a character absent for an episode or two as it's tricky balancing so many actors at once. While the other shows in the franchise have seen some cast turnover, the mothership has been mostly intact and again there's been no word of Peregrym thinking of departing.

So, fans can be assured that this is just a brief break and that Maggie will be back on the job soon, although the question of her being a foster mom remains a plot point for season 7.

FBI season 6 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
