Is FBI gearing up for a major cast exit ahead of season 7?
Could FBI be setting up a huge cast exit? Given the way the plots are going, not just one but a few characters could possibly be leaving after this year!
FBI has been one of CBS’ biggest hits, and the start of a huge franchise for the network. It not only earned a renewal for season 7 but for seasons 8 and 9 as well. Given its growing longevity, it’s a bit surprising the show hasn’t seen too much cast turnover (especially compared to FBI: International). However, fans are wondering if the current storylines might be setting up some exits for season 7.
Could Maggie choose motherhood over the job?
The biggest plot is with Maggie (Missy Peregrym), who’s already been through a lot on the job. Running into her old friend Jessica Blake (Charlotte Sullivan), Maggie was impressed how Jessica loved caring for daughter Ella. That had Maggie considering motherhood herself only for Jessica to collapse in a case. She had a brain aneurysm and named Maggie a caretaker for Ella.
Shockingly, Jessica died during surgery, leaving Maggie to raise Ella. It’s already been a distraction in some cases and came up in the latest one when Maggie was almost shot in a raid. She confessed to OA that it wasn’t her own life she was thinking of but Ella and that she might need a break from the team.
The show may be setting Peregrym up for leaving the series with the logical idea that Maggie decides she has to focus on raising Ella. That could mean leaving the FBI or just moving to a different division with less danger. Maybe Maggie can decide to balance it out and there's a possibility the writers just have Ella live with another relative. Yet the prominence of this storyline makes it more worrisome that the show is leading to Maggie departing the series.
Is Tiffany’s obsession going to destroy her?
A major shift for FBI was in the season 6 premiere as Tiffany (Katherine Renee Kane) took office tech Hobbs with her to surveil suspected smuggler Hakim. Tragically, Hakim recognized Hobbs as a fed and fatally shot him.
Tiffany has been wracked with guilt over this and it’s driven her to hunt for Hakim. A recent episode had her almost ruining a case when she was more concerned about getting a line on Hakim than stopping a possible bombing. That had her called on the carpet by Isobel even as Tiffany was right that Hakim had returned to the U.S.
Spoilers for the season finale indicate Tiffany is going to have a shot at Hakim. The question is if she lets her guilt and need for revenge overcome her judgment and make a move that could ruin her career. Even without crossing the line, Tiffany may feel she can’t do the job anymore so possibly her obsession could cost her her FBI career one way or another.
Could OA finally decide it’s time to go?
This may be an odd choice but OA (Zeeko Zaki) has had his own problems this season. He finally landed a new girlfriend, Gemma, only to find she was unknowingly linked to a drug case. That led to a friend of Gemma’s being killed and she wasn’t happy OA had kept all this from her.
This ties to OA’s long-standing issues of being a Muslim man in the FBI and it's not the first time he’s questioned his thinking in the field. Perhaps OA decides it’s finally time to move on with a possible promotion or transfer and try to make a difference without risking pain to anyone close to him.
Might Scola decide his kid is more important?
This is likely the least possible, but it is interesting how Scola (John Boyd) has been focusing more on raising a child with Nina (Shantel VanSanten). Like other agents, Scola knows balancing fatherhood with such a high-risk job is dangerous and he and Nina have discussed how rough their dual careers are. So it’s possible Scola thinks transferring to a less risky division of the FBI can be better for both him and his family.
Right now, this is all speculation, yet it's interesting how FBI seems to be preparing for one major cast exit with the character arcs, so the season 6 finale may end up being a rough one for fans of the series.
FBI season 6 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
