Hello, Fire Country fam! How are your hearts after the tragic end of season 2, episode 5 "This Storm Will Pass"? Mine's a little bruised because I do believe the show made its first big mistake, but I'm still along for the ride. The moment we've all be waiting for is almost upon us. On Friday, April 12 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, we'll be introduced to Sheriff's Sergeant Mickey Fox, played by Morena Baccarin.

Her character has been teased for months since she could become the lead of a potential spin-off that will expand the franchise into a procedural about the sheriff's department. While law enforcement have made an appearance on Fire Country sporadically, we've mostly seen correctional officers since Three Rock is an inmate fire camp. Episode 6, "Alert the Sheriff," is going to drop us into a different world. It'll be interesting to see what seeds are planted for the potential spin-off during the episode, particularly when it comes to the term that the prospective show will embody.

For the firefighter drama it's redemption. There's a lot of focus on the character's overcoming obstacles and pushing through emotional pain to heal. As Jordan Calloway describes it: "I think this show does a great job of making sure we show individuals that are on a journey of bettering themselves. That's what we really want. If you want to better yourself, then you'll end up bettering the community."

So how will Mickey better Edgewater? Let's take a look at what's been shared about her upcoming episode for an answer.

What is Fire Country season 2 episode 6 about?

In "Alert the Sheriff," an inmate from Three Rock escapes triggering a manhunt. Two officers have been killed, it's because of this that Bode is concerned that the inmate won't walk away from this with his life either. The promo doesn't give away who from camp is making a break for it. I doubt that it's Cole considering Eve told him she was going to write a letter to the governor on his behalf to keep him at Three Rock. Not to mention, he's got a wife and kids to think about and fleeing won't bring him any closer to them.

The description for the episode also teases that Mickey has a connection to the Leone family. From the promotional images released, it was clear that the connection was going to come through Sharon Leone. Now, as TVLine reports, we know that the two are estranged sisters who are trying to work through pas hurts. In an interview with TVInsider, Diane Farr spoke about working with Morena Baccarin:

"I had such an amazing time working with her because, like we were saying, she’s a peer. The other women in the show are all in some way like a daughter to me. Eve [Jules Latimer] was my daughter’s best friend, and Gabriela was my son’s girlfriend. [Winces] We can only hope. So just to have another woman there who is like a peer, I think it’s great. It’s a male-dominated field, firefighting, and it’s one of the best representations I’ve seen of different races and different women and different sexual orientations in the house, but she doesn’t have peers, so we can only hope there’ll be a lot more Morena."

The team behind Fire Country have shared some of what we can expect with "Alert the Sheriff." We know that the episode was directed by Max Thieriot and that it's not a backdoor pilot as the potential sheriff spin-off hasn't been given the green light yet.

Everyone will still be processing the loss of Cara and what it means for their lives going forward. Particularly, for Jake and Bode, that's being there for Genevieve and what that looks like for them both since Jake has suddenly become a single parent to a preteen whose paternity is currently unknown but she's assumed to be Bode's, and Bode is incarcerated.

In the behind-the-scenes look at the episode that the cast did with TVLine, we get a glimpse of what Jake has been up to. He and Gabriela are sitting beside a volcano, giving the implication that he's been helping Gen with a science project. It looks to be an opportunity for him to open up to Gabi or for her to push for him to do so.

As for what else to expect, in my interview with Jordan Calloway, he did give me a spoiler-free tease for the episode:

"There's a pretty sick fight. A whole lot of fire. Definitely some twists. Our director Bill [Purple], he was like "Oh, this is Fire Country. Sheriff Country though is like Fire Country but with guns," so it's going to be intense. It's going to be fun; there's going to be a mystery as well, some cases getting solved. It's going to be a good ride, it's going to be a fun, fun ride."

The mystery afoot will be Mickey's to untangle since she's the one who has been called to investigate the incident at Three Rock. Presumably, this does mean that there's more than meets the eye with this case, and she's going to be the one who pushes for cooler heads to prevail so they can get to the bottom of what happened. If she is set to be the lead of a Fire Country spin-off, it's expected that she'll have a similar heart and sense of justice that the characters we've come to love do, and a mind toward not letting someone's worst day define them or blind her to the truth.

I'm looking forward to "Alert the Sheriff," the episode airs Friday, Apr. 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Next day streaming is available on Paramount+. The season 2 finale will air on May 17.
