Fire Country season 2 episode 9 preview: The stakes are high at the campaign fire
By Sabrina Reed
It's Friday (May 9), which means we're in for another action packed episode of Fire Country at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. We're also barreling toward the finale as "No Future, No Consequences" is the penultimate episode of season 2. It's an ominous title but a fitting one considering the core of the plot centers on the Lazarus campaign fire that Three Rock was given leave to help with last episode.
The situation is dire! As we learned in "It's Not Over," Cal Fire units have been getting called up to join the campaign to contain this raging beast of a blaze. By the time we're dropped into episode 9, Station 42 will be joining the fight that, based on the promo, the firefighters are in danger of losing. As one notes in the footage, the town of Welles--population 55,000--could go up in flames if they can't keep Lazarus from reaching it.
Genevieve is right to be worried that she might lose someone else she loves. Not everyone comes home to their families after a campaign like this which is why the events of last episode are also concerning. Remember, Vince suffered a cardiac event and would have died if it weren't for Gabriela. He, however, has not told his family about his health issues and, because of this, we're not out of the woods. Plus, it's clear that he's the one Gabriela is yelling at in the promo.
Vince isn't the only one she'll have to contend with. Stephanie Arcila gave an interview where she shared that viewers should be worried about Manny. His encounter with his ex, Roberta, was triggering for him as we saw when he punched Luke after learning he was responsible for the closing order being put on Three Rock. We're not done with Manny's regression and there's trouble ahead for him emotionally and physically as can be seen in the footage where he's barely out of a blast zone.
Romance-wise, though the promo doesn't show it, we're in for a scene on the swings between Gabriela and Bode. We're coming hot off the heels of Roberta picking up on the fact that Bode still loves her daughter, and her urging Gabriela not to make a mistake she's going to have to live with for years to come. That mistake, of course, would be marrying a man who doesn't have her heart.
Season 2 has been lacking when it comes to Gode talks so perhaps we'll be getting a much needed discussion between the two. But don't get too excited because we know from the synopsis for, "I Do," the season finale, that Gabriela's still going to be preparing to walk down the aisle. That, however, doesn't mean we won't make progress with these two. I'm still holding out hope!
Aside from the action, we can look forward to Billy Burke's singing in "No Future, No Consequences." Ahead of the season 2 premiere, I spoke to Burke and he'd shared that they had talked about incorporating his second talent in the show again but hadn't yet worked out how it would fit into the story. Looks like they figured it out just before season 2's close, and we're getting some fireside music as the campaign crews wind down for the night.
I'm looking forward to what the penultimate episode has in store for us. Tune into Fire Country at 9 p.m. ET tonight. The episode will be available to stream next day on Paramount+.
