Fire Country season 2 finale preview: Bode searches for his purpose
By Sabrina Reed
The penultimate episode of Fire Country season 2 did what we were all hoping would happen before the end of the season--Bode was released from prison. Now he must be the determiner of his own fate and that will require him finding his purpose.
We know that firefighting on the Three Rock hand unit meant a lot to him. It changed his perspective on stepping into his family legacy and allowed him to become closer to his father, Vince, who he'd been estranged from for years. As a free man, one would expect that he'd make his way to the firefighter program but the promo suggests that may not be the case in the early days of his parole.
Besides the return of Bode's friend, Freddy, who'd been dearly missed, the big moment of the season 2 finale, "I Do," is Gabriela and Diego's wedding. Everyone is on tenterhooks waiting to see if Bode is going to give us an epic, sweeping TV scene that's one for the books. Or if Gabriela is going to continue to put her head before her heart and marry her safe choice even though we all know she's still very much in love with Bode.
But that's not the only storyline to keep in mind. As far as we know, Manny's still in the wind and there's a warrant out for his arrest. Speaking about the finale at a Fire Country FYC event, Kevin Alejandro teased the following about where his character winds up in the season ending episode:
"There's a moment particularly for my character. Actually, for my character and everyone who surrounds him... when I was told [about the ending] for the first time, I was like, that's poetic. It ends like a poem, and I really appreciate it.
"
That's quite a way to put whatever happens and it's definitely something that's peaked my interest. Stephanie Arcila had described Manny as having been triggered by Roberta's presence in episode 8, "It's Not Over," and it's what led to the development regression we saw in that episode and in "No Future, No Consequences." It's my hope that after the strong talking to he got from Gabriela and Eve that he can get back on track even with the law nipping at his heels.
Lastly, we have Vince to consider. His family now knows about his heart condition and we're likely to learn more about his health in the finale. Interestingly, Vince has been concerned that his future at Cal Fire is uncertain because of the arrhythmia. And with Bode saying that he was a firefighter, not is, it does have me concerned that the two won't be able to fight fires side-by-side like they'd hoped now that Bode is a free man.
Thankfully, we're not going into "I Do" with the question of whether or not Fire Country will be getting a season 3. It was renewed earlier on during this sophomore run so we can anticipate more episodes to come in Fall 2024. But, if you're wondering about the Sheriff's Country spin-off, we're in for a wait there. It did get picked up, but it won't air until 2025.
Fire Country's season 2 finale airs at 9 p.m. ET tonight on CBS.
