Fire Country season 2 is still a little over a month away from its premiere on Friday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS but news is starting to trickle in now that the cast and crew are back to filming in Vancouver.

We knew the premiere, "Something's Coming," was going to change the game thanks to showrunner Tia Napolitano's tease that "everyone's story will be very, very surprising from the moment you see them." But didn't know how. Now that the synopsis for the episode has been released, we're beginning to piece it together.

The episode description: Bode is back in prison where he receives some shocking news. Meanwhile, the station 42 crew responds to a massive earthquake that rocks Edgewater to its core.

We expected that we'd be returned to Bode in prison. A big part of the story in the first half of the season has to be centered on how to either free him or at least get him back to Three Rock Fire Camp. That's going to take the rallying of his friends and family plus the untangling of a legal situation he got put into because he was coerced into admitting to a crime he didn't commit. Not to mention, Tye White has been cast in the role of Cole, Bode's cellmate.

So what could be so shocking for Bode that it's worth putting in the premiere's synopsis? Here's what I'm thinking it could be!

I Know It Feels Impossible
“I Know It Feels Impossible” – The station 42 and Three Rock crews face a daring rescue when a massive mudslide tears through Edgewater. Meanwhile, Bode’s freedom is on the line at his parole hearing, on the first season finale of FIRE COUNTRY, Friday, May 19 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. 1. Bode finds out he may be a father

At the top of my list is Bode learning Cara had a baby when they were 19 and that he could be the little girl's father. She shared that bombshell secret with Jake in the season 1 finale, and it hasn't left my mind since. It became increasingly likely to me that he'd find out early on in season 2 when Cole's character description was released. He's a "family man" and around Bode's age. That's the second young father that Bode's befriended. His best friend Freddie is a new dad. I think the dots are dotting in this situation, y'all.

But how would this come up? Can we expect Genevieve to make an appearance? This firefighter procedural is basically a soap opera, I would not be surprised if a precocious preteen shows up to visit him because she overheard a conversation she wasn't supposed to or if Cara did tell Genevieve that they aren't sisters and she's really her biological mother. Hopefully though there isn't added drama of Bode finding out because of the earthquake and something happening to the child.

Work, Don't Worry
“Work, Don’t Worry” – The crew engages in a search and rescue mission after a building collapses and Division Chief Sharon is forced to make a gut-wrenching decision, on FIRE COUNTRY, Friday, Oct. 28 (9:00 – 10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. 2. Sharon needs Bode's kidney after all

Sharon Leone has had more viable kidney donor options than I have ever seen on television as such if it doesn't end up working out with her brother-in-law Luke's kidney then she'll have to look to her son. Sharon will most certainly die without a transplant so her desire not to put Bode's life at risk will be null and void. Bode being needed in this situation would give him an opportunity to be among his friends and family, however briefly, and outside of the prison which is something the show will need to do from time to time to keep him connected to the Edgewater plot.

3. Bode's either released from prison or returns to camp

This is my least favorite option. Bode's imprisonment in the season 1 finale had real stakes. Walking back the gravity of his removal from the routine he knew and the people he loves would cheapen the story. I don't know about you but it would let the air out of the balloon of my excitement. I've been fit to burst trying to figure out how they're going to help Bode. If it's as simple as dropping the charges or his family came up with a plan off-screen that would be disappointing.

It's my hope that we spend a bit of time with Bode while he is in prison as it would be a contrast from what we saw in the first season. It's an opportunity to see Bode navigate a different environment and while he doesn't need to spend half the season there, he should be there for more than one episode.
