The Station 19 Season 6 finale delivered a powerful cliffhanger that has left us worried for one of our favorites all summer, fall, and winter. Did we get any answers about Jack Gibson’s fate in the Season 7 premiere?
Caution: This post contains major spoilers from the Station 19 Season 7 premiere.
The episode opened to find out how serious Jack’s injuries were. That hit to the head was serious, and we actually opened to Jack being in the middle of a building fire as he started hearing music. It turned out that the music was coming from the OR as Amelia worked on Jack’s brain.
We didn’t see Jack in surgery for too long. The surgery went well and there wasn’t too much brain swelling. Ben was even very happy to hear that Amelia didn’t keep the skull open, showing that she isn’t worried about further swelling or the need for more surgery.
Admittedly, things didn’t feel great with Andy seeing a vision of Jack around the hospital. It almost felt like it was leading to Andy saying goodbye to someone else important to her.
Did Jack Gibson survive on the Station 19 Season 7 premiere?
We spent the episode with everyone just hoping that Jack would pull through. Vic and Theo had to attend a crisis call, dealing with their personal issues at the same time, while Montgomery visited Dixon’s family after his death in the finale. Andy, Maya, and Ben remained at the hospital waiting for Jack to wake up. Sullivan was at the hospital while Natasha was a patient with a broken leg trying to prove that she shouldn’t lose her job.
Marsha came to the hospital, angry that nobody had called her right away. After all, she is more family than anyone outside of the firehouse to Jack. This really felt like the show was setting things up to not have Jack wake up.
By the end of the episode, Amelia delivered some bad news. While the surgery was fine, there scarring on the brain from traumatic brain injuries from the past. It means that he may not end up with some motor skills, and even if Jack wakes up, Amelia isn’t certain that he’d be cleared as a firefighter because of the severity of the scans.
Jack wasn’t there as a way to say goodbye, though. He was there for Andy to have a chance to work through her doubts about being made captain. He was there for her to make it clear to herself that she deserved it, and we can all agree she does.
By the end of the episode, Jack did wake up. It should be great news but now it’s time for Andy to deliver the bad news to him. This is going to be a tough season.
Station 19 airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
