New NBC shows 2024: All the new series coming in the 2024-2025 TV season
The networks have been adjusting plans for their seasons thanks to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. NBC is among them as they just announced their upcoming schedule, which holds a few shows back for midseason but a nice slate of returning series.
There are a few series set for the fall, including a couple of new comedies while the midseason slate has some interesting entries. It’s likely NBC will announce a few new projects for the midseason, like the rumored Suits: LA show, but for now, here’s what’s confirmed coming for the next year!
Brilliant Minds
Premiere Date: Mondays at 10/9c beginning this fall
Cast: Zachary Quinto, Teddy Sears, Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alexander MacNicoll
Zachary Quinto returns to NBC with this newest addition to the medical drama genre. He plays Oliver Wolf, a world-renowned neurologist who handles a staff of interns who aid him in exploring the mystery of the human mind. From people suffering from real diseases to unusual cases, they tackle them while also dealing with their personal dramas.
It’s up in the air who else is joining the cast and the storylines but it does appear this show has a new spin on the medical drama, which NBC excels at. It should combine for a fun series when it premieres this fall.
Happy’s Place
Premiere Date: Fridays at 8/7c beginning this fall
Cast: Reba McEntire, Melissa Peterman, Belissa Escobedo, Rex Linn
Reba McEntire is back in the sitcom format with this new series. She’s a woman jarred when her father dies and expects to inherit his family bar. She’s stunned to discover that her father had another child (Belissa Escobedo) and these newly discovered half-sisters have to learn to live with each other while running this business.
McEntire’s former Reba co-star Melissa Peterman co-stars as her friend with the trailer showing McEntire hasn’t lost any of her sass or appeal. With a Friday night slot, this can bring some great laughs and once more score McEntire a sitcom success to go with her country music stardom.
St. Denis Medical
Premiere Date: Tuesdays at 8/7c beginning this fall
Cast: Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, David Alan Grier, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper
NBC perfected the “mockumentary” with The Office and Parks and Recreation. They’re at it again with this new series set in an understaffed and underfunded Oregon hospital. Fresh off The Goldbergs, Wendi McLendon-Covey plays Joyce, a former surgeon turned executive director who wants to turn St. Denis around. Sadly, her dreams far exceed her actual talent and abilities.
Also in the cast are David Alan Grier and Josh Lawson as surgeons and Alison Tolman as the put-upon head nurse. It’s likely to showcase some fun shots on the medical genre along with the usual tongue-in-cheek humor of the mockumentary and fill a nice spot in the comedy block for NBC.
The Americas
Premiere Date: February 23, 2025
Cast: Tom Hanks
This show isn’t focused on people as much as the world around them. Narrated by Tom Hanks with music by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, the series “will employ revolutionary filmmaking technology that will showcase the wonders, secrets, and fragilities of the Americas – Earth’s largest landmass and the only one to stretch between both poles – and reveal extraordinary, untold wildlife stories that deeply connect with millions around the world.”
Not much else is known besides that but it’s likely this is a fun take on the nature documentary series. If nothing else, Hanks’ presence will be nice and give this show a nice boost for viewers.
The Hunting Party
Premiere Date: TBA
Cast: Melissa Roxburgh, Sara Garcia, Patrick Sabongui, Josh McKenzie
Set for midseason, this new crime series stars Melissa Roxburgh of Manifest fame. She plays a cop who’s pulled into a small team of investigators when a prison break occurs. The twist: The prison isn’t supposed to exist, and its top-secret nature means the government can’t even acknowledge that this breakout happened.
Now, this team has to track down these fugitives without any aid from law enforcement while also questioning just what this prison is about. Expect more details to be added as the show comes at midseason with a twist on the criminal-hunting genre.
Destination X
Premiere Date: TBA
Here’s a fun spin on the usual competition show. A pack of folks are transported in a bus with blacked-out windows to a mystery location. There, they play on a real-life game board where they face challenges to figure out just where they are. The goal is to place the “X” on the map closest to the actual location. Those who fail leave, and those who win get a shot to continue this strange road trip. It’s a weird concept, but it could work out as a twist on the racing competition formula.
