No, a new season of Orange is the New Black is not coming in 2024 (or ever)

Could Orange is the New Black be making a comeback for another season? Or is this just a big trick on fans? Here's what we know!

Debuting in 2013, Orange is the New Black was Netflix's first smash original series. Based on a book, it told the story of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), who's sentenced to jail for drug smuggling. She survives with a unique pack of inmates, including her ex-lover, Alex (Laura Prepon). The series was acclaimed for its amazing storytelling, graphic situations and unique plot turns.

The cast was fantastic, with Natasha Lyonne, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, and Uzo Aduba, who won an Emmy for her turn as "Crazy Eyes." Notably, it's one of the few series to compete for both Drama and Comedy awards. 

The series ended its seven-season run in 2019 after 91 episodes. That appeared to be the end of it as the show closed out all the characters' stories. But is it possible it's joining other series in a revival of some sort?

Is Orange is the New Black coming back?

Last week, someone on TikTok began posting clips and videos of Season 7. Fans thus jumped to the conclusion that this was the setup for a Season 8 revival and eagerly discussed what it could be. 

After all, when Suits hit Netflix in 2023, the viewership skyrocketed to the point NBC is planning a revival of it. It’s thus logical that given the revival fever, Netflix might want to bring back one of their biggest hits. 

However, as The Wrap detailed, there are no plans for any sort of revival. Indeed, Jenji Kohan seemed to indicate when the show ended in 2019 that she was done with the darkness and while she liked to imagine alternate stories, she didn't have plans to continue. 

It would be difficult to imagine a revival capturing the spirit of the original or if any of the actors would be willing to come back. It would require Kohan's involvement to keep that flavor and without that, any revival can seem lacking. 

So, as of now, it looks like the hopes of an Orange is the New Black revival happening is just a pipe dream for fans, although one never knows when a return can happen.
