If you're a Bodiela shipper hoping that the Fire Country season 3 premiere will skip past the wedding and just tell us that Gabriela decided not to marry Diego, you're fresh out of luck.

We very well could be returned to the wedding come the show's fall return since we didn't get to see the full ceremony. Showrunner Tia Napolitano confirmed to TVLine that Rafael De La Feunte will return to the role of Diego Moreno in the firefighter drama's junior run: "We’ll see some Diego…We’ve got to find out how that wedding ended, don’t we?”

I Do
“I Do” – Gabriela prepares to walk down the aisle on her wedding day as Bode receives some surprising news, on the second season finale of FIRE COUNTRY, Friday, May 17 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ Pictured: Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela Perez, Barclay Hope as Father Pascal, and Rafael De La Fuente as Diego Moreno. In the season 2 finale, Bode left the church before we could see whether or not the couple were going to exchange vows or if Gabriela was going to back out. As such, we've been left on a dramatic pause that needs to get picked up. Most fans, whether they're Bodiela shippers or not (I prefer Gode!), don't think we'll see Gabriela make the mistake of marrying her safe choice when her heart is with another. Particularly because of what Napolitano shared concerning what Bode will be up to in season 3.

The showrunner, in a post-mortem interview with TVLine, spoke to Bode having more fun in the coming season and experiencing joy which he hasn't had much of in the show's run so far.

"Our goal is to have a lot of fun with him next season and really let him in on the fun that Eve and Gabriela and Jake have as young, single people. Yeah, we really want to bring some levity and joy to Bode."

Now, why would Gabriela be grouped with the "young, single people" if she's happily married to Diego or at least still in a relationship with him if for some reason the wedding didn't move forward? This also means, however, that those hoping that Gabriela is going to leave Diego at the altar and go running after Bode isn't going to happen either.

Perhaps, much to the irritation of viewers who would just like the two to be together already, we're going to see the pair learn how to be friends when a prison sentence isn't sitting between them and that will lead to the relationship fans have been waiting for since the first season.

What I can confirm is that we will see the main cast of characters during "downtime." Billy Burke had stated, at a For Your Consideration event, that he'd like to see what these firefighters get up to when they're not managing a crisis:

"I would love to see just a little bit more of what these people do when there's not a crisis going on. Fire firefighters going to the grocery store… because the truth of the matter is a lot of these guys who spend their lives, you know, sacrificing themselves for everybody else, a lot of the time is downtime. And what do they do with that? Where's the crisis within the crisis?"

Hearing his comment, Napolitano said, "I was in the season three writers room and I heard a pitch about their downtime. So I think you're gonna be happy."

Based on what's been said about Fire Country season 3 so far, it does seem that now Bode's out of prison, we could be getting a more intimate look at the home and personal lives of the characters since we won't be spending so much time at Three Rock. It should be noted though that we'll still be dropping in on the fire camp since Eve is captain and Cole is serving out his sentence at the facility.
