Superman and Lois is on the move at CW, the show is no longer in the Tuesday superhero slot

Superman and Lois’ timeslot for its final season is a big change which is fitting for the farewell for the CW’s once-strong superhero universe.

It’s still amazing to see how the CW has given up on so much scripted fare. It’s been pushed by the merger with Nexstar and cost-cutting moves. The CW is relying less on original scripted fare and more on game shows, reality shows, and imported series from Canada. 

That’s a blow to fans, especially since it has led to the end of the “Arrowverse,” the CW’s game-changing slate of programming based on DC Comics characters. Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Stargirl, Batwoman, Naomi, and even Gotham Knights are all gone, some after just a season or two.

The sole remaining entry is Superman and Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin as the Man of Steel and Bitsie Tulloch as legendary reporter, Lois Lane. The show has focused on the married couple moving back to Clark’s hometown of Smallville and raising their sons, Jonathan and Jordan. The series mixes the family drama (including Lois’ cancer battle) with the usual superhero fare. 

Superman and Lois managed to survive the CW scripted show purge for a fourth season, which will be the last. It’s also going to have a huge cast exodus as Dylan Walsh (Sam Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle), Inde Navarrette (Sarah), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons) and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy) have all been cut as series regulars.

So it’s already a tough ride for the fourth and final season, which picks right up from the cliffhanger of Superman facing the monstrous Doomsday. Michael Cudlitz has also become a regular as Superman’s iconic arch-enemy Lex Luthor. Now, we know there's been a time change to go with all the rest. 

When will Superman and Lois air in Fall 2024?

The CW’s new fall schedule shows Superman and Lois has been moved from its Tuesday night slot to Thursdays at 8/7c. It will be the lead-in for the new adventure series The Librarians: The Next Chapter, a spin-off of the TNT series about a pack of scholars on unique supernatural adventures.

This looks like the new strategy by the CW to use what existing shows are left to push new fare. It’s still up in the air about the fate of shows like Walker and All American as the network is continuing its new path utilizing less original scripted fare. 

It’s a sad sign of how far the CW’s superhero slate has fallen, as Tuesdays used to be a prime night with The Flash and other shows. Instead, Superman & Lois is being sent to Thursdays, where it has a much more competitive time slot and is unlikely to spark up more. 

So fans will have to wait until Thursdays to see the last year of Superman and Lois which is another bitter reminder of how the CW’s scripted fare slate has collapsed badly over the years.
