Is Taylor's new diagnosis a sign Brooke will be single soon on Bold and the Beautiful? (Speculation)

Now that Taylor has gotten a second opinion on The Bold and the Beautiful, we have a clearer picture of what we're dealing with. In Thursday, Oct. 3's episode, after Taylor took the test she needed, Dr. Grace Buckingham was able to share with her that she doesn't have heart failure. Instead, Taylor is dealing with broken heart syndrome. Yes, that's a real condition.

In the real world, we often hear about broken heart syndrome when someone has passed shortly after a loved one has. Their surviving family members and friends tend to say that their heart must have given out from the grief. While some may think that this is a shorthand for why a sudden death has happened when there are no underlying conditions beside a broken heart, this syndrome is actually a real medical condition that can be treated.

The good news here is that Taylor isn't dying. What she's experiencing is heartache so severe that it's mimicking heart attacks. Medication and reducing stress, or anything that might trigger an episode, will help her get better. There isn't exactly a cure for broken heart syndrome but people do recover from it. The question is whether or not the soap is going to lean into the rare complications that can stem from this condition to expand the story. According to the Cleveland Clinic, these complications are as follows:

  • Blockage of the blood flow from your left ventricle
  • Pulmonary edema
  • Rupture of the left ventricle of your heart
  • Heart failure
  • Blood clot in the wall of your left ventricle
  • Hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Heart block
  • Death

I say this because it's pretty clear, unless we're given another reason, that Taylor's broken heart was caused by Ridge. Remember, she'd opened her heart up to him again in Aspen when he swore to her that he didn't want to be with her just because of something that Brooke did. He chased Taylor up a mountain to prove to her that he was sincere about giving their romance another go.

Ridge even proposed to Taylor and they were going to get married only for it to be revealed on their wedding day that he'd lied. He had left Brooke because he thought she'd called CPS on Thomas when, in actuality, Thomas had made the call using his son's voice imitator to do it. When he learned the truth, Ridge couldn't go through with the wedding and he broke Taylor's heart.

In the aftermath of that decision, he took time to choose what he wanted for his future but, when he got back to Los Angeles, Ridge was confronted with Braylor's choice not to be with him. Eventually, the pact they made dissolved and Ridge resumed his romance with Brooke. Now, it's possible this storyline has circled back around and is wreaking havoc.

This is interesting timing because Bridge have been engaged for quite awhile. Taylor asked Ridge about it and he said that they've spoken about it but it's not something that's stayed on their minds. It gave the impression that he didn't think remarrying Brooke was necessary. Alarm bells started sounding for me during that scene back in September. They went off again during this episode when Katie told Bill that she can't be with him because she's only the love of his life when Brooke isn't available.

Who randomly had a meeting with Bill after Katie left? Brooke! And Bill told her what her sister said. This came on the heels of Brooke asking Carter about his relationship status with Katie as a means of trying to piece together whether Batie is set to rise again.

I don't think Brooke was fishing because she's interested in Bill. But it is curious that as Taylor's diagnosed with broken heart syndrome, and after Ridge promised to be there for her, that the prospect of Brill is popping up on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Katie was right when she told Bill that he always wants to try again with her when things don't work out for him in the romance department. Brooke doesn't want him? Well, at least he has "his" Katie. Poppy didn't live up to the fantasy he had of her in his head? Oh, there's always Katie. Rightfully, she said that she's not going to be a stand-in for the person he actually wants. But if the writers do intend on rekindling Batie, Bill choosing her when Brooke is single would make the case for their reunion.

How would Brooke be single though? If Ridge is so preoccupied with Taylor and helping her recover from broken heart syndrome that he damages his relationship with his "destiny." Or, if they don't break-up, he chooses to downplay his affection for Brooke around Taylor so as not to agitate her condition which makes Brooke sad and we know how she gets when she's not feeling loved. She tends to lean on a past paramour for the affection she's missing. This usually results in an ill-advised kiss that hurts her relationship or, perhaps in this case, ends it entirely.

There are few intriguing directions the writers could go with these potentially interconnecting storylines. I'm looking forward to seeing them play out. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more The Bold and the Beautiful coverage.
