FBI season 7 makes its debut Tuesday, Oct. 15 and the series is starting the season with a bang! Literally. The case in "Abandoned" centers on the mysterious death of a Brooklyn plumber. Someone with that occupation shouldn't have been assassinated so it's clear to the team that something is afoot. What they'll come to know over the course of the episode is that they've been launched into an investigation that spans the globe and will put the FBI and the CIA at odds.

As lovers of procedurals know, whenever these two government agencies come head-to-head it rarely goes well. Feathers are ruffled, information is withheld, and there tends to be a conspiracy wrapped around the case the FBI is investigating. For the season opener, this incident comes with Tiffany Wallace's departure from the New York office and the introduction of a new team member.

Syd Ortiz is a profiler from the Behavioral Analysis Unit who is making the transition to OA, Scola, and Maggie's team to step into the role of Scola's partner. She's entered the scene at quite an interesting time since the FBI has been thrust into spy games. Showrunner Mike Weiss teased what's set to happen in an interview with TV Insider.

"Our team is launched into a globe-spanning investigation that ruffles feathers with the CIA. It isn’t a terrorism story but a spy game being played by government agencies when the FBI threatens to reveal mistakes the CIA made years ago. I can promise that there are dark forces at play on both sides of the Atlantic."

The case in "Abandoned" opens the door to a storyline about a cover-up. The team will be up against a former CIA case officer who is described as "secretive and cagey." The former operative's mission is to make sure what happened overseas involving a counterterrorism effort stays under wraps and that means doing whatever it takes to ensure success.

Weiss said that by the end of the episode "our team will have to choose between keeping innocent people safe or going along with a governmental cover-up." It sounds like this season opener is going to be a tough one and complicated with twists and turns. One such turn could involve Scola given a still released for the premiere.

Could Scola wind up in the hospital due to the case they're working on or Tiffay's distraction in the field? She's going to be struggling with the aftermath of the Hakim case which had consumed her last season. If her partner gets hurt in the field because her head wasn't in the game that could be the catalyst for her exit. Remember, she lost Hobbs while working a case with him. It wasn't due to her being distracted but experiencing something similar with Scola could trigger a need for her to transfer so that she can take care of herself emotionally and mentally.

However Tiffany's exit goes down, it is nice to know that we will be getting some kind of closure with her character instead of her being absent and it's explained away by a sentence or two from someone on the team.

"Abandoned" is just the beginning of what's sure to be an action packed season of FBI. Season 7 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Next day streaming will be available on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more news and coverage!
