Tyler James Williams on what's "dangerous" about Janine and Gregory being a couple in Abbott Elementary season 4

Abbott Elementary's Janine and Gregory definitely had a long will they, won't they journey. Just think about it. We're three seasons in and they've finally decided to give their relationship a real shot. That kiss in the season 3 finale just made us all swoon! Now look, I get it. There's a lot of factors to consider.

The two work together, are great co-workers, and their lives are intertwined pretty well. But still. Us shippers have been wanting to see them together for so long now, and it's finally happening in Abbott Elementary season 4 (coming to ABC on Oct. 9, 2024)! Though it's not always smooth sailing in relationships, and that's what the new couple will have to look out for.

In a recent roundup of Matt's Inside Line on TVLine, the reporter was asked if he could get an answer on how Janine and Gregory will handle dating as co-workers. Matt was able to get a response from the Gregory actor himself. Here's what Tyler James Williams told the news outlet:

"As much as [them being together] is great, it’s also very dangerous,” Tyler James Williams told [TVLine] with a laugh. “This is a situation where one fight can be very bad. And that’s, hopefully, what we’ll start to chip away at in [season] 4."

And, yes. That is true. If Janine and Gregory get into one big fight, then it's going to be awkward for them interacting at school, where their classrooms are right next to each other. Plus, their friends and fellow co-workers might have to start taking sides. Or mediating between them. And let's face it. No one wants to be in that situation.

Plus, both of them have reached a point where they love their jobs at Abbott and wouldn't want to transfer to another school. They've built a strong community and friendship group - even a reluctant Ava is included here - that would be disappointing to lose. A lot is definitely at stake for each of them. Especially Janine who has just returned from working at the district.

She learned that her true passion is teaching, even if the district job was better for her and she could make a bigger difference. But she's still making a difference in a different way by being with her kids. There's so much to consider, but I'm very hopeful that Janine and Gregory will be able to work it out in Abbott Elementary season 4! They may face some ups and down like any other couple does, but I'm sure they'll get through it together. This is what all of us - and Jacob - have been waiting for!
