It's been quite a bit since the FBI franchise checked in on the family unit that is Nina Chase, Stuart Scola, and their son, Douglas. When both the flagship and FBI: Most Wanted premiered their new seasons, we learned that everything was going fine. They were co-parenting well and Nina's transition to the Fugitive Task Force wasn't hindering their ability to navigating the various challenges that come with parenting.

Since then it's been quiet. So much so that Shantel VanSanten joked in a TVLine interview that she and the cast of Most Wanted, have a running gag where they put forward places Dougie has been. For instance, she said: "I learned that Hana has had a revolving door of different roommates, so we made this joke that baby Dougie must be her next roommate!”

All jokes aside, the actress (and members of the FBI fanbase like myself) is excited that we're finally circling back to this pivotal life change for Nina and Scola. This update on where the two stand as parents is even important enough to warrant a crossover which is saying a lot since both shows have shortened seasons this go around due to the Hollywood strikes. What's set to happen? Here's everything we know!

When is the FBI crossover?

The crossover will kick off in FBI: Most Wanted season 5 episode 8, "Supply Chain," which premieres Tuesday, April 9 at 10 p.m. ET. Interestingly, there's no mention of what could lead to Scola's decision to pay Nina a visit in the synopsis for FBI season 6 episode 8, "Phantom," which will air two hours before the start of the crossover. But it may or may not have something to do with Tiffany's personal struggle with the loss of Hobb's in that episode. They are partners and their departed co-worker was a family man. It might remind Scola of the danger he and Nina are in day in and day out doing their jobs.

The second part of the crossover will take place on FBI in episode 9 of this season. The premiere date is Tuesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. ET. An episode title and details have yet to be shared, however, we do know the storyline for "Supply Chain."

What is the crossover about?

The case of the week centers on two teens who are abducted by a middle-aged woman at gunpoint while they're in the middle of closing a drug deal but the emotional root of "Supply Chain" rests on Nina and Scola's shoulders. They've hit a bump in co-parenting due to their differing views on parenting styles. VanSanten shared the following about their argument:

"Parenting with two working parents, that have the same job and that are in the FBI, is a challenge in and of itself, and we see that. But it’s a little bit more about diving into Nina and her past and her upbringing. It’s about the way that that’s really affecting her and her feelings about herself as a mother — and the way that she’s showing up in the relationship [with Scola] as well."

It looks like the FBI: Most Wanted writers will not only be exploring Nina's past but also how it informs her present. Remember, Nina initially wanted to raise Dougie on her own. She'd left the door open for Scola to be an active participant in their son's life but it'd been clear that she wanted full control of his rearing. In FBI season 5, the two did decide to co-parent and continue their relationship.

This episode will be our chance to finally see what that looks like with their son in the mix. Caring for someone, particularly a child, can bring up emotional wounds and old hurts from the past. It can also be healing and an opportunity for a parent to explore the changes they'd make regarding how to raise a child, enforce boundaries, and correct unacceptable behavior.

Now, obviously, Douglas is a baby so they're not going to get too in the weeds with that regard but it's a conversation to be had between his parents and, based on VanSanten's words, we could get some character reveals as Nina and Scola navigate this bump.

I'll update this article once information comes in about part two of the FBI crossover. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote!
