If there's one thing I love about the age of streaming, it's that I can easily access a completed hit show I've never seen before and dive in to all of the captivating characters and cliffhangers for the first time. There have been so many shows that friends and family loved, that I just didn't get to watch the first time around. In the same way that many people got hooked on Suits for the first time last year, Netflix has another hit series coming that is also worth your attention: Prison Break.

Prison Break first premiered on FOX in the summer of 2005, and it was a huge success, averaging over 9 million viewers each week in its first season. The show would continue to be a hit until it came to a close at the end of season 4, but then it came back -- with mixed reviews -- for an additional 9 episodes in the 2017. Regardless of whether you support the short revival, the show is still absolutely worth your time. Here's why we think Prison Break deserves to be your next Netflix binge.

A perfect blend of edge-of-your-seat genres

Prison Break is, of course, a crime drama, but it's not the crime stories that made it such an instant hit. Rather, each episode weaves in mystery and thriller stories that keep you engaged and wanting to keep watching. When I rewatch episodes, I don't find myself mindlessly scrolling on my phone during "boring" moments, because Prison Break knows how to keep you invested, making it extremely binge-able.

A full-proof premise with solid cliffhangers

From the very first episode of the series, you know exactly what you're signing up for with Prison Break, but that doesn't mean the lead character Michael fills you in on all the elements of his master plan. The series feeds information to its audience at an exciting pace. You feel like you're "in the know" with what's going on, but Michael's plan isn't entirely shared with the audience, which keeps things interesting.

You quickly realize that each episode is going to present new reveals and cliffhangers as Michael works through the roadblocks in his plan -- and as we learn more about other characters working against him. And with such an extreme deadline in which Michael has to work to save his brother from Death Row, these cliffhangers are often more intense than on other crime dramas.

Prison Break is a completed series with no surprise cancellations

One of the biggest fan complaints about the current television landscape is that too many shows are being canceled after only one or two seasons. And shows that have been lucky enough to be renewed can take too long to get back into production. But with a series like Prison Break, you know exactly what you're signing up for: 90 episodes that serve a completed story with no risk of cancellation.

Shows to watch if you love crime dramas. dark. Next. Shows to watch if you love crime dramas

Whether you're starting Prison Break for the first time, or you're revisiting the series after not seeing it in years, you should consider putting this show at the top of your Netflix must-watch list.

You can watch all seasons (90 episodes!) of Prison Break on Netflix starting July 29.
