Fall TV is about to kick off, but before our favorite shows return, it’s time for television’s biggest night of the year! Tonight, the Emmys will honor some of the top performances from the last year in television via the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards.
This year's event will be hosted by one of the most successful and iconic actors in television with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay hosting for the first time. While it’s been some time since broadcast took home some of the night's honors, Hargitay is no stranger to the Emmys, having taken home three Emmys over the years, including one for her performance as Olivia Benson, which she won exactly 20 years ago back in 2006.
The night will honor TV with tributes to several classic shows via fun cast reunions and appearances from the biggest names in television. Across the night, the Emmys will welcome a new class of winners to the mix with the year's top performances and shows celebrated with television’s top honor! 2026 Red Carpet start time by time zone
Of course, one of the highlights of the Emmys is the red carpet coverage! The red carpet coverage gives us the chance to check out the night’s nominees, presenters, and attendees in all of their glory before the awards begin as they hit the red carpet. One hour later, the official live carpet coverage will begin with the two-hour Live From E!: 2026 Emmys red carpet special will be hosted by Justin Sylvester, Keltie Knight, and Will Marfuggi. This is the red carpet coverage fans won’t want to miss, as it’s during this two-hour block that the night’s biggest names will hit the carpet as they make their way into the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, California. When do the 2026 Emmys start? Here’s your guide to the Emmy start time by time zone
After the stars hit the red carpet, it will be time for the Emmy ceremony to begin! The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will begin promptly at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock and will kick off a long night for fans!
While the Emmys will begin promptly at 8 p.m. ET, it’s always a guess when the ceremony will end, as the Emmys, much like the Oscars, never tend to end on time. NBC is hoping to wrap up the festivities at 11 p.m. ET, but we’ll see if they succeed in actually ending the ceremony at just three hours or if the ceremony will end up running long. Historically, the Emmys do tend to wrap closer to its planned run times than the Oscars, so there is a chance the telecast will end on time, but we’d suggest planning to stick around a little longer.
Of course, if you’re not based on the East Coast, your viewing experience will look different as the Emmys will be airing either earlier in the day for you or, in some instances, taking place during the early morning hours.
