Doc just scored a second-season renewal, but when is the first-season finale of the Fox hit drama?
Doc has been one of the first big surprises of 2025 network TV. The Fox drama debuted on Tuesday, Jan. 7 with an impressive 16 million viewers watching via various platforms and encores. What looked to be a mid-season filler show has become a good success for the network.
It's now built to Doc earning a second-season renewal, with Fox already giving it a full 22-episode order for Season 2. That's a testament to how the show has connected with viewers.
Right now, the show is building to its first season finale which will thankfully only start its journey on Fox. So when is the finale coming?
When is the Doc season 1 finale?
The series was intended to run at mid-season with Fox only ordering 10 episodes for its first year. That's become standard for some network shows that are emulating the trend of streaming services of shorter seasons.
The season finale was originally going to air Tuesday, March 11, but now delayed as March 4 will have TV programming preempted by a Presidential address to Congress. Thus, Episode 9 will air on March 11, and the season finale will air on Tuesday, March 18.
That's meant to pave the way for the return of new seasons of The Cleaning Lady and APB: Missing Persons Unit, both coming on Tuesday, March 25. So fans have a couple of weeks to prepare for the Doc season 1 finale.
Why Doc has taken off with viewers
The show's success rests on its unique premise. Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker) is a cold chief of internal medicine at a hospital when she gets into a severe car crash. It causes her retrograde amnesia, so she can't remember anything since 2016.
Amy awakens to learn her son died, she and her husband divorced, she's been having a fling with an intern, Jake (Jon Ecker), and became a hostile boss. Amy is now trying to rebuild her life as a doctor while not remembering her colleague Richard Miller (Scott Wolf) may have covered up accidentally killing a patient.
The show has gotten praise for Parker's performance as Amy has adjusted to this new life and recently rekindled the romance with Jake while still having feelings for her ex-husband. The show is also fun mixing the medical emergencies with flashbacks to Amy's past and what happened to her.
Season 1 is likely to build to Amy finally discovering what Richard did as she becomes a full doctor again. That leaves it up in the air if Season 2 has Amy recovering more of her memories or is still working on a new life.
Either way, fans can be happy that Doc's first season finale won't be the end of Amy's adventures and continue this unique medical drama.
Doc airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Fox.
