FBI season 8 had a few twists for OA, from a failed relationship to being poisoned and more. The finale had the team investigating the hijacking of a pathogen. It was the work of Anna Vorpe (Claire Coffey), the NSA black-ops agent who’d clashed with the team before. The pathogen was a deadly virus that could wipe out most of New York City.

The teams worked together through a wild turn of one terrorist spraying a bus full of passengers with the pathogen and demanding the release of a compatriot in exchange for a cure. The team found the antidote, only for Anna’s team to turn on them and take it for themselves. They were willing to let the bus of passengers die so they could study the pathogen for a better antidote.

OA and Maggie were already upset by this, and even more so when Assistant Director Green revealed that the entire incident would be hushed up. An outraged OA called Green a disgrace, and Green fired him on the spot.

At a bar, OA was met by Anna, who offered him a job with her team. As soon as she left, OA called up Isobel and Maggie to tell them “I’m in.”

It was a wild twist, and speaking to TVLine, Zeeko Zaki talked about how OA and Maggie “have a moral compass” that clashes with Anna’s darker view of law enforcement. That included flat-out torturing a suspect.

"It goes against everything [OA] stands for," Zaki explained. "But at the end of the day, he is a soldier. And rules are rules, and apparently, some people don't have to follow them. We believe there is a right way to get the job done, while Anna's team has no problem using the wrong way.”

Of course, it’s all about that twist with Zaki hinting there’s more than meets the eye and it won’t be long before OA’s morals and ethical code clash with Anna’s harsher methods.

"I think the saying is 'If you can't beat them, join them. But with OA's meteoric moral compass, it will be fun to watch how far we can bend it to save the day and do what is right. It's always fun to see the team in a way you haven't before, and I think this is a great way to do that and start season 9."

That has a lot of fans excited to see how this unfolds.

Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Mike Weiss confirmed that only Isobel and Maggie know about OA’s secret mission. Yep, even Green and Jubal have no idea OA is going undercover, and it seems season 9 will open with a time jump.

"We're going to start season 9 with OA having been gone for weeks or months. He's deep undercover. No one has seen him. I don't even know yet, because it's early days, but we'll have to figure out a way... how can you report back to your team when you're embedded with, as we've seen, really, really dangerous, capable military operators. So that's going to be difficult. Just to get him and Maggie in the same room will be a challenge in a fun way, at the top of Season 9.”

There’s no word on just how long OA will be on his mission. It may be wrapped up by the end of the season premiere, or they may decide to stretch it over a few episodes with OA put in the middle of a clash between the two units. Weiss did hint OA will return with some conflict from Scola, Jubal, and the rest of the team about being kept in the dark about all this.

We have to wait until the fall to see how it unfolds, though it sounds like FBI season 9 is putting OA on his darkest mission yet.
