Valentine’s Day is 2 days away or maybe you call it Single’s Awareness Day. Whatever you prefer, the day of love wouldn’t be complete without some lessons in love. Who better to take lessons from than Bob’s Burgers? Well, probably a lot of other people, shows, and things but the show is known for their holiday episodes including Valentine’s Day.

Instead of trying to figure out some complex lesson, let’s look at what Bob’s Burgers can teach you from their Valentine’s Day episodes. With only 4 including their newest Bob Actually, there aren’t many lessons but each is worth knowing. Starting from their first Valentine’s Day episode to their most recent, get ready for the Belchers’ Class: Love 101.

Lesson #1: It’s Not All About The Gifts

In “My Fuzzy Valentine”, Bob goes hunting for a love tester machine to give to Linda in memory of their first date. It’s all good until Bob realizes he confused it for a different first date. This is where you can learn from Bob’s mistake because that’s pretty embarrassing even though Linda brushed it off.

Instead of getting your special someone a gift, you could plan a fun date night. It will be more about spending time together than spending money on something they might not even like. It’s sad to say but it’s true. Take a hint from Bob and skip the gift this year especially if you’re running low on cash. It will just as nice to spend time with each other as a gift would be and definitely a lot cheaper.

BOB’S BURGERS: Tina and Darryl join forces in an attempt to win other people’s hearts in the ???Can’t Buy Me Math??? episode of BOB’S BURGERS airing Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (Photo by FOX via Getty Images)

Lesson #2: Don’t Try To Force A Connection

In “Can’t Buy Me Math”, Tina and Darryl fake date to try to get their crushes to notice them. The plan goes awry when Tina falls for Darryl and he doesn’t feel the same. The lesson here is simple: Don’t try to make sparks where there aren’t any.

If you like someone and they don’t like you, there’s nothing you can do. No matter how much you try to change yourself for them, it won’t matter. It’d be better to find someone who likes you for you and appreciates everything instead of trying to fake it with someone else. It’s tough to hear but in the end, it will all work itself out and you’ll be happier overall. Stick to the butt who makes you have butterflies, a quote from Tina Belcher…well not really but probably.

Lesson #3: Don’t Wait Until The Last Minute

In “The Gene and Courtney Show”, Bob waits until the last minute to get carnations for Tina and almost comes up short. Simply put, don’t wait to plan something until the last minute because it not only shows how little you care but usually turns out bad.

Do yourself a favor and give yourself a week or two, depending on what you’re planning. If you just want a simple movie night, then make sure you renewed your Netflix before or if you’re planning a fancy dinner out, try to make reservations so you won’t have to wait. A little planning ahead never hurt anyone and shows your love how much you care about them. Even if you’re just doing something with friends, make sure to plan something ahead to accompany everyone’s schedules and is something you all want to do.

It might seem like a pain at first, but you will feel better in the end!

Lesson #4: Embrace The Messiness

In “Bob Actually”, Tina admits to Jimmy Jr about her diarrhea and Bob takes a rushed dance class to impress Linda. Gene gets a crush and a broken heart and Louise ends up in a confusing yet heartwarming situation with Regular Sized Rudy.

Despite how much you plan ahead, you never know how Valentine’s Day will go. There are a million possibilities, but the best thing you can do is just roll with the punches. No matter how wrong the day goes, it will all be worth it in the end. Either way, it will end up a good/funny story to tell later. Plus Valentine’s Day is only a day, right? You have 364 other days to spread the love and show everyone in your life how much you love them.

Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 9:30/8:30c.
