Supernatural Season 13: Is Rowena actually dead?

Rowena was supposedly killed off in the Season 12 finale. Is she really dead or will she return for Supernatural Season 13?

There’s already speculation over who will return in Supernatural Season 13. The showrunners have already shared that people long dead will return. We also know that Mary is alive and Castiel will return. What we don’t know is the fate of a certain red-haired witch.

Rowena was supposedly killed by Lucifer in the Supernatural Season 12 finale. He had a lock of her hair, as he stood over her burned-to-a-crisp body. But we never actually saw the death happen and we haven’t heard anything from Ruth Connell about her character since.

Mark Sheppard, a.k.a Crowley, has defiantly left the show. We had this confirmation from the actor just days after the season finale aired. While Castiel’s fate was left with a huge question mark, his return was confirmed at SDCC 2017.

But what about Rowena?

Did Supernatural actually kill her off?

Well if you asked Supernatural they will probably say yes or refuse to answer. But let’s be honest, do we really think they actually did?

First of all, we didn’t actually see her death on screen. In fact, she wasn’t even called up to play dead on screen. It was just a charred body. I’ve learned a lot watching Supernatural (and Game of Thrones). If you don’t see a death on screen and the actor/actress hasn’t confirmed their death, then there are high chances they’re not really dead. Even if they do die on screen, there are chances they will return in Supernatural anyway.

If they did actually kill her then what a disappointing way to end such an iconic character! Rowena has become embedded in the Supernatural family both on and off screen, so to end her role that way just seems implausible.

So what are our thoughts?

Well, it’s Rowena. One of, if not the most, badass witches in Supernatural. If there is anyone capable of avoiding Lucifer it’s her. She’s already come back from the dead at Lucifer’s hands once, why can’t she do it again?

I reckon she has cast some spell to avoid being detected and she likely had some imitation of herself as a decoy for Lucifer to roast. Supernatural Season 13 will bring her back and confirm this.

Another possibility is that she is actually dead, or at least this version is. A new version of Rowena will come through the rift. This is one of the best things about the new plot in Supernatural they can easily have old dead characters return without too much explanation.

I am definitely sure however that Rowena is not gone for good and will make a return in Season 13.
