The Gifted season 1, episode 2 advanced preview: rX

The Gifted season 1, episode 2, rX will follow Lorna to Lakewood Jail, while Kate and Marcos team-up to save Clarice after Mutant HQ is attacked by SWAT.

In the series premiere of The Gifted, teenage siblings Lauren and Andy Strucker were both revealed to be mutants and quickly became a target of Sentinel Services, despite the fact that their father, Reed, was on the local mutant task force. Once mutants’ rights became a personal concern for Reed, he used his power and contacts within the underground mutant community to arrange a secret transport for his family to flee to Mexico.
Reed met with Marcos Diaz (Eclipse), whose girlfriend Lorna had been captured by Reed’s task force the previous night. The agreement was to have Reed’s family evacuate without him, on the promise that he could join his wife and kids in Mexico once Lorna (and her unborn child) were released. That night, Clarice and John tracked Marcos to the meeting point, but the entire group was intercepted by Sentinel Services. Using their combined mutant abilities, the group was able to portal back to the Underground Mutant Headquarters, with the exception of Reed, who was shot just a few feet away from Clarice’s portal and left behind for Sentinel Services to capture.
The Gifted season 1, episode 2 synopsis:
"After exerting her powers beyond their limits, Clarice (Blink) goes into a state of shock, forcing Kate and Marcos (Eclipse) to go on a mission to find a special serum that will help her to recover. Meanwhile, Reed faces some difficult choices when it comes to helping his family, and Lorna (Polaris) runs into some trouble."
Photos reveal Episode 2 will also feature fight scene between the mutants and SWAT in the Mutant Underground Headquarters (note the vault entrance in the background). Both Lauren and Andy will hone their skills and use their powers to help John, Clarice and Dreamer (guest star Elena Satine) fight back against the SWAT team, but we know that Clarice will exhaust her abilities and require a “special serum” to recover. Kate and Marcos will team-up to seek out the serum in a medical center, and we can see that the pair is likely using Marcos’ injury as an excuse for being there (is he revealing his mutant ability to the receptionist?). Photos also seem to show Kate wearing hospital scrubs, so maybe she’ll be the one who’s able to access the serum?

This week’s new episode will introduce a few new mutants, and we got our first-look at a mutant named Pedro, played by actor Dinarte DeFreitas.

“rX” will also bring us to Lakewood Jail, where we’ll see Lorna “run into some trouble” while adjusting to life with other mutant and non-mutant inmates:

Finally, we’ll get to see more of the combative relationship between Reed and Jace, both set on finding Lauren and Andy. The released photo shows what looks like a negotiation, but season 1 trailers for The Gifted show Reed in a prison cell next to Lorna, so he likely won’t have much control over his future (unless his prison placement is part of a plan to get Lorna back to Marcos…).
