Jack went in search for his father in the Supernatural Season 13 premiere and it wasn’t who you were initially expecting.
Throughout the Supernatural Season 13 premiere, Jack had one goal in mind: find his father. He asked if Sam was his father in the very beginning and then walked the streets naked to find the man, well, angel. At no point did we get a name of this father, but we all assumed that he was searching for Lucifer, right?
Well, while in jail with Sam, Jack shares that Lucifer isn’t the name of his father. Jack was looking for Castiel.

Yes, cue lots of tears and sobs, but it did bring up a question. How could Castiel be Jack’s father?
We’ve seen all sorts of theories: there was a change in the DNA when Jack saved Castiel and Kelly from Dagon or Castiel passed some of his grace onto the young nephilim. But we think the explanation is a lot more simpler than that.
Jack is still Lucifer’s baby
While Jack thinks Cass is his father, there’s no denying that Jack is Lucifer’s baby. The angel blade to the heart proved that. If Cass was Jack’s father, then Jack would have died in that jail cell. So, Jack has to be the son of an archangel.
But that doesn’t mean Jack will view Lucifer as his father. Jack actually explained his reasoning behind his assumption. Kelly had told Jack that Cass would protect him; that Cass would keep him safe. Jack had already become a young adult because Kelly told him that being a baby or child wasn’t safe, and he explained he knew how to talk because he’d absorbed Kelly while being born.
So, when Jack heard that Castiel would protect him, he assumed that it meant Cass was his father. It’s an understandable assumption. Think of all the people who are adopted and view their adopted parents as their real parents. Even if they find out they were adopted, many view their adopted parents as Mom and Dad but their “real” parents as their biological Mom and Dad. They view the ones who raised them as their real parents.
This is the way Jack is currently thinking. He’s already learned that “family don’t end with blood” and it doesn’t start there, either.
Jack learns the truth in Supernatural
In the trailer for Supernatural Season 13, Episode 2, Jack will eventually learn the truth. Sam and Dean explain that Lucifer is his biological father. And yes that’s a very bad thing! It’s going to be an interesting conversation and reaction next week.
