The last Prince of Hell will make an appearance in Supernatural this week, but what do we know about him?

Jeffrey Vincent Parise is making his debut appearance in Supernatural Season 13, Episode 2. He has officially been given a name in the synopsis, Asmodeus. For those who think they recognize the demon name, it’s probably because you remember him being mentioned in Season 12. He is one of the four Princes of Hell.

Crowley (we miss him!) mentioned that there were four Princes of Hell, while they faced one name Ramiel. The Winchesters had already faced and killed one way back in Season 2: Azazel. The third, Dagon, was killed in Season 12 by Castiel and Jack. Only Asmodeus has never been seen.

But what exactly are the Princes of Hell and what could it mean for the Winchesters?

The infamous Yellow Eyed Demon

For a long time, Azazel was just known as the Yellow Eyed Demon. He was the one who had made a deal with Mary Winchester to allow him to drop a few bits of demon blood into Sammy when he was just six months old. Because Mary interrupted him, she was killed, along with any other parents who interrupted him during this plan to fuel babies with demon blood.

Azazel’s plan was to release Lucifer from the cage and it certainly worked. But everyone thought he was alone. Nobody realized there were more Yellow Eyed Demons out there.

It was only in Season 12 that fans learned of the Princes of Hell.

The second generation of demons

The Princes of Hell are the second generation of demon created by Lucifer. Lilith was the first and she was needed to help release Lucifer from the cage. Since she needed to die for that, Lucifer would need generals in his demon army and that fell on the shoulders of the Princes of Hell.

Only Azazel stuck with the plan to release Lucifer. The others chose to go into hiding on Earth and live their lives. However, Dagon decided to make sure Lucifer’s son was born and attempted to get the baby to Lucifer.

Asmodeus has only been mentioned, but he is just as powerful as his three counterparts. As the rightful heir to the throne of Hell, it’s not surprising that he has come in to take it over. After all, he likely now believes Lucifer is gone for good.

There isn’t much that can kill a Prince of Hell. Azazel showed that they could walk on holy ground and Ramiel couldn’t be stopped with devil’s trap bullets, angel blades, or the demon blade. The only things that have so far stopped Princes have been the Colt, the Lance of Michael, and Jack’s powers. It’s likely that the First Blade and Death’s Scythe would work too but these haven’t been shown on screen.

Only Jack’s powers are left out of the proven methods of killing the Princes of Hell. Is this how the Winchesters will get rid of Asmodeus?
