Shadowhunters season 3: Dom Sherwood’s top takeover takeaways!

#TakeoverTuesday is back for Shadowhunters Season 3 and Dom Sherwood commandeered social media to tease upcoming episodes!

The cast of Shadowhunters is currently up in Toronto, Canada filming Season 3, and this week was Dominic Sherwood’s turn to takeover social media and bring fans behind the scenes in the Shadow World. Not only did we learn more about Jace’s scenes in 3A, but Dom’s playful, funny content did not disappoint!

First and foremost, we learned that Dom is a “creative problem solver.” Filming in Toronto means being cold for most of the year, but Dom’s invested in the ultimate winter coat: a Spiderman onesie sleeping bag.

He also isn’t afraid to use his weapons and props on set to meet basic needs. Doesn’t everyone use swords to cut off clothing tags? Some of his other on-set interests include getting wrapped up in bungie cords, messing with playbacks on the camera monitors, and working overtime in the training room (aka the Shadowhunters Dojo).

During Dom’s live chat, we learned quite a few things about upcoming scenes in Season 3A. The cast is currently filming episode 6 and is prepping for episode 7. Similar to what showrunners (and Matthew Daddario) said at NYCC, Dom explained that Jace is going to be very overworked in the first several episodes of 3A, and now that he’s Lilith’s target, Jace’s life is about to get even more complicated. He hinted that there will be lots of “duplicity” for Jace this year, and fans of The Mortal Instrument series probably understand what he’s hinting.

Fans are curious to know about the Lightwood family and Jace’s parabatai bond in Season 3, and Dom teased that Episode 7 will have a strong parabatai scene and a great Jace/Isabelle scene where we’ll see references to their upbringing together as preteens. Dom confirmed that he believes the older Lightwood sibling trio is the most successful when they’re collaborating and working together, something we all hope to see more of this spring.

Fans will also be excited to learn that Maryse has more screen time with her two older sons in Season 3A, and as the emotional weight in Jace and Alec’s lives gets heavier, their parabatai bond will come to play a crucial role in the story.

Continuing in his live chat, Dom revealed that Jace has a night scene with Ollie in Episode 6. Perhaps she’ll learn about the world of shadowhunting in addition to what she’s already uncovered about werewolves? Dom also teased that Jace will have at least one scene with Magnus somewhere in the second half of 3A (though we hope it’s more than one).

We had previously learned from Alberto Rosende to expect more music performances next year, and though Dom said that singing is cathartic for him personally, he doesn’t think Jace will ever sing in Shadowhunters Season 3. The one exception? He says that if producers can get Matthew Daddario to sing in an episode, he’ll sing too.
