4 reasons Sheldon should have chosen Penny as his Best Man on The Big Bang Theory

Penny may have the important role of Amy’s Maid of Honor, but she should really be Sheldon’s Best Man.

The Big Bang Theory involved Sheldon and Amy testing their friends. They were struggling to decide the two most important roles in their wedding, with people on all sides make suggestions and comments. In the end, the obvious two were chosen and it was beautiful. One of the best moments was Penny realizing that Amy is her best friend, after years of the relationship seeming one-sided.

However, Penny may have been better suited to be Sheldon’s Best Man (or “Best Woman” in this case). Here are four reasons why.

#1. The tradition of the Best Man

Sheldon points out that the Best Man traditionally had the duty of protecting the bride and groom. It’s not clear whether this was supposed to be from a potential outside attack or the crazy family members who like to cause scenes at the wedding or maybe even from each other.

Whatever the way, Penny is the best person suited for this type of role. She’s continually proven to be vicious and willing to fight.

Bernadette would have been second choice, as she’s small and deadly. However, there are other reasons that put Penny before Bernadette.

#2. Penny has helped Sheldon grow

Out of all the people on The Big Bang Theory, it’s Penny who has been there to help Sheldon grow. Sure, Leonard has certainly played a part, but Penny has been a huge influence on him.

Sheldon will need a sounding board on his wedding. He needs someone who he can turn to for advice or to help him when he gets cold feet. Penny is more likely to help set him right with her straight-forward approaches.

#3. She’s mighty protective of him

She has also shown to be overly protective in a way that none of the others have, except possible Amy. This is just another element of the traditions of the Best Man. Penny would never let something happen to Sheldon on the day of his wedding.

Leonard would be protective, but not in the same way as Penny. He’d also struggle to take on someone who’s there to hurt Sheldon, whereas Penny would make her displeasure known right away.

#4. She’d be more confident with the speech

The toasts are traditionally given by the father of the bride, the Best Man, and the groom. Seeing Leonard attempt to give a speech will be hilarious, and not just because he knows all the funny and embarrassing things Sheldon has done. He’d also have his own issues with public speaking to deal with.

Penny is much more confident in front of people. She’s a former actress, so used to standing up in front of a camera. It would be a shame if Penny didn’t use her skills. Of course, there’s a chance Penny will say something as the group are never traditional when it comes to weddings.

Technically, Leonard is the right person in terms of closeness for Sheldon. However, there are elements of the position that makes Penny the better option for Best Man.
