After rumors SOA creator Kurt Sutter was working on a spin-off series were confirmed, fans of the Redwood Originals patiently waited for FX to pick up the series. And by patiently, I of course mean anxiously! Thankfully, it didn’t take long after FX ordered a pilot of Mayans MC for the network to decide to move forward with production!
Who will it star? When does it take place? Will Charlie Hunnam make an appearance as Jax Teller (assuming Mayans MC is a prequel)? When does the series premiere? We have so many questions! Here’s everything we know so far…
What is it about?
"From FX’s press release: “Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, fresh out of prison, is a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American Dream within his grasp.”"
Mayans MC will follow SAMCRO’s on-and-off rival club the Mayans. In previous interviews, creator Kurt Sutter has said the series is “Darker. A deep-rooted family drama that will showcase the Latino voice.”
Who’s directing?
Kurt Sutter is not on this project alone. Co-creator and co-executive producer of the series is Elgin James (director of Little Birds), who is a former gang member, but turned his life around and is now a successful filmmaker. The pilot is directed by Noberto Barba, who will also serve as Executive Producer.

Mayans MC stars Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner 1982), JD Pardo (The Messangers), Sarah Bolger (Once Upon a Time), Clayton Cardenas (American Crime), Richard Cabral (American Crime), Michael Irby (Almost Human), Raoul Trujillo (Riddick), Antonio Jaramillo (Kill the Dictator), and Carla Baratta.
How many episodes?
FX has ordered a 10-episode season.

When does it premiere?
No premiere date is known, but our best guess is late spring or summer this year.
Will Charlie Hunnam appear?
Mayans MC takes place after Sons of Anarchy‘s, so Jax is unfortunately dead. Our only hope is a flashback, but that may be asking too much. However, I’m sure they will mention his name, and we’d love to see their reaction to Jax’s death.
