Supernatural recap: Wayward Sisters assemble
The Wayward Sisters joined in the Supernatural winter premiere and it was epic.
I’ll be honest. I had no idea what to expect from the Wayward Sisters backdoor pilot. I wanted to like it, but I’ve never really liked Claire. Part of me worried that it just wouldn’t work with four teens, leading to a lot of teenage angst. The Supernatural winter premiere helped to get rid of all those doubts and showed that this is definitely a spin-off I can get on board with.
There were twists and turns; there was laugh-out-loud moments; there were moments I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Here’s the Supernatural recap so you can catch up on all the Wayward moments from the night.
Biker Barbie Claire
The episode opened with Claire on a hunting trip. She saves a young girl from a bunch of werewolves, showing that she’s a skilled and talented hunter with a heart of gold. After the hunter, she returns the young girl to her mom and watches as they reunite. It’s bittersweet for Claire, who doesn’t get to have that with her own mom (although she definitely does with Jody).
When the phone rings, Claire answers. The conversation with Jody brings those epic lines. The Winchesters are on a hunting trip and they haven’t been home in a few days. Yes, it is time for the Wayward women to assemble to save the Winchesters who usually save them.

Of course, this leads to Patience and Claire meeting for the first time. There are instant hostilities, since Claire doesn’t believe Patience has really seen her death. She just views it as Jody’s attempts to stop her hunting. So, Claire leaves the house, paying Alex a visit at work.
Alex the nurse
Claire tries to get a dig in at Alex’s wish for a normal life, but her willingness to do research on the side. Alex just wants to be there for Jody, and really that’s a dig at Claire, who would prefer to hunt. The two adopted sisters put their differences aside, when Alex notices that a girl has been brought into the hospital. Off Claire goes to find out if it’s Kaia.
Sure enough it is, but Kaia isn’t into talking. She grabs her stuff and runs, only to find a creature from the Bad Place in the parking lot. It’s Claire and then Jody to the rescue, who both help to take down the monster. Rather than leave the monster behind, they take it to Jody’s where Alex can perform an autopsy.
Claire realizes that Kaia knows more than she is letting on. After trading battle wounds, Kaia opens up about the Bad Place, which is where the Winchesters likely are. If they are there, they have to be dead. The group of women refuse to believe that but there’s no time to argue, as Patience gets another vision.
Patience the psychic
After a quip about burying the monster in the backyard (how many monsters are there?) and deciding this isn’t the life for her, Patience gets a vision of more of those monsters showing up at the house. Not accepting that her visions could be wrong, Patience grabs her almost-family and gets them away from the house. Claire watches the monsters attack from the nanny cam in the house. Suddenly the idea of dying is very real and that’s not what she wants.
Meanwhile, Jody makes a call for backup. No, it’s definitely not the National Guard. It’s someone who’s killed a lot of vampires.
Donna the vampire slayer
Donna rocks up with her take no backtalk attitude and hugs for everyone. She’s ready to tackle whatever is coming at them and is equipped with the basics. Those basics include a flamethrower. Yes, this is important for later.

Jody and Donna check out the boat that Kaia led them to, while the younger women stick with the cars for the time being. The two sheriffs are shocked to see a rift in the middle of the boat, along with two of the creatures that attacked earlier. When they find themselves trapped, it’s Claire and co. with flamethrower in hand to the rescue. With one down, the other runs away. Now it’s time to decide on who will go through the closing rift to save the Winchesters.
Kaia the savior
Claire makes it very clear that she will be the one to go through. Jody accepts, allowing Claire and Kaia to go together, with Claire promising Kaia that she’ll look out for the newbie. The two women go in to find Dean and Sam tied to a tree.
Throughout all this, Dean and Sam have wandered around the Bad Place, eating lizard and been taken down someone that looks like she belongs in Assassins Creed. There’s not been a lot of focus on them, but there doesn’t need to be. This is about setting up the women. But it’s important to point out that the two brothers are grateful for Claire’s help.
Just as the four are about to run back through the rift, the Assassins Creed ninja throws a spear. Kaia sees what’s about to happen and pushes Claire out of the way, taking the hit herself. As the Winchesters decide if they need to attack the ninja and the big black smoke King Kong-like monster forming above, Kaia dies holding Claire’s hand. Deciding against the fight, the Winchesters and Claire jump through the rift, just before it closes.
Claire is heartbroken at losing her new friend, collapsing in Jody’s arms. Patience now sees that she didn’t watch Claire die in her vision, but saw Claire distraught at losing a friend.
Jody the mother hen
It all wraps with the Winchesters sharing their gratitude for Jody and co.’s help. They know how Claire feels and are there for when she wants to talk. The Winchesters also offer to stick around to deal with this new hellmouth, but Jody sends them packing. There are enough hunters in the area to handle whatever the situation is.
Back in the house, Patience is officially welcomed into the family after killing a monster while on the boat. Maybe this is where she belongs after all.
As for Claire, she allows herself to grieve for her friend, but also accepts that being home isn’t so bad. Being with family is what she needs right now, so after writing a quick entry in her hunter’s journal, she heads downstairs to join the women for dinner.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Supernatural without a twist ending. There’s a new rift open in Sioux Falls and the Assassins Creed ninja drops her hood to reveal she’s….KAIA‼!
