Bobby has space for 148 names in his book? Could this be a clue of the number of lives he’s lost?

9-1-1 shows the work the first responders do and the danger they can put themselves in during calls. Of course, with any successful TV show there’s the element of personal lives.

One of those that came out in the latest episode, “Worst Day Ever,” was Bobby’s. At the very beginning, Buck asks why he specifically has space for 148 names in his book and the reason may have been hinted towards.

Bobby the alcoholic

Bobby is in recovery, but slipped off the train during the episode. After an excruciatingly hard emergency, Bobby returned home to an empty apartment with place settings for four people. As he drank a whole bottle of whiskey, he imaged himself talking to his son. It’s clear that his family is gone, presumably dead, and his drinking likely caused that.

But is there more to it? Could the names in the black book connect to Bobby’s family in some way? Is it possible that Bobby’s drinking killed his family, but also killed numerous other people at the same time?

There are a few ways that this could have happened, but one of those is an apartment fire. In his drunken state, he may have caused a fire to spread. Nobody was able to get out of the building, leading to the death of not just Bobby’s family but (presuming a wife and two children) 145 other people. Bobby wants to save the lives of 148 people to make up for the lives taken.

It’s similar to Seven Pounds, starring Will Smith. In the movie, an accident led to the death of seven people (including Smith’s character’s family). Haunted by his actions that led to the accident, he goes out in search for redemption. While Smith’s character selects seven people to receive his organs, 9-1-1 may opt for saving 148 lives as a first responder, since he doesn’t have 148 organs to donate to save.

What will Bobby do next?

Once he’s saved those 148 lives, what will he then do? His character has already shown he has some suicidal tendencies. He was willing to drown with the female passenger on the plane in “Worst Day Ever,” even though he wasn’t finished with his list. While he may not have wanted to leave her alone, it was a risk nobody else was willing to take.

Could Bobby take drastic actions when he completes his list? Will he feel like his redemption is done and he can join his family in the afterlife?
