Jessica Graf and Cody Nickson have already gotten a “villain” edit on The Amazing Race season 30. But does #TeamBigBrother deserve it?

More from CBS

We first got supposed “evidence” of Graf and Nickson playing dirty when Graf held on to Brittany Austin’s  gnome during the telephone booth portion of the Road Block in Episode 3. Graf set the gnome on the ground, but BB forgot to take it with her when she completed the task. Austin accused Graf of purposely leaving the gnome at the phone booth, even though there was no evidence of this. Instead of blaming Graf, Austin should have made sure she had her gnome before racing to the next location.

The villain edit only intensified during the most recent episode of The Amazing Race Season 30. First, Graf and Nickson used the Double U-Turn on Trevor Wadleigh and Chris Marchant, leading to the elimination of the popular #TeamWellStrung.

I was rooting for Wadleigh and Marchant on The Amazing Race Season 30, but even I have to admit there was nothing dirty about #TeamBigBrother using the U-Turn. If Wadleigh and Marchant didn’t want to get U-Turned, they should have arrived at the Detour sooner.

In fact, #TeamWellStrung is not holding the U-Turn against Graf and Nickson. After their elimination, Wadleigh and Marchant admitted that they preferred being sent home because of a U-Turn to losing because of their own silly mistake. They have also admitted that they would have used the Double U-Turn if they had the chance.

Then, during the Road Block, producers made it seem like Graf purposely told Austin and Alex Rossi of #TeamIndyCar one of the incorrect words they needed to complete Franz Kafka’s quote. She kept saying one of the words was “this”  until she decided to try the correct word, “life,”  instead.

Rossi and Austin assumed that Graf knew the right word was “life”  the whole time. But I believe she really did think the word was “this”  at first and just tried “life”  because it made sense with the rest of the quote.

Either way, Graf didn’t just leave Rossi and Austin hanging. After she received her clue, she told them the right answer. She explained that she didn’t tell them in advance that she was trying “life”  because she didn’t want them to pull ahead of her after she had done the hard work of determining the correct words. Again, this is not dirty and is actually smart strategy.

All of the teams have gotten along pretty well on The Amazing Race Season 30. So producers are trying to paint Graf and Nickson as villains to drum up some controversy. But this is unfair to #TeamBigBrother. Graf and Nickson may be competitive, but they haven’t crossed the line.
