The ratings for Supernatural Season 13, Episode 12 are in, with Rowena’s return proving a mixture of good and bad news.

More from Supernatural

It’s that time of week again, where we look into the Supernatural ratings. Rowena’s return was widely talked about between Supernatural fans, with many questioning whether she had really died or whether she would find a way to return. The ratings, which consist of live and same day results, are mixed but what does this mean for the series’ future?

We’re still waiting to hear about Supernatural Season 14. While The CW president, Mark Pedowitz, has said that there’s a place as long as Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki want it, there are also the ratings to consider. He has also made a point that the ratings need to hold steady.

The great news is the key demo ratings (18-49 year olds) did hold steady for Rowena’s return. They sit at 0.6 again, which is where they’ve sat for the last three weeks in a row now. This is excellent news. However, it’s the overall audience ratings that saw a drop. And it was a relatively big one.

A total of 1.684 million people tuned into the episode, seeing a 12.56% drop. While this isn’t the lowest of the season, it’s the lowest when the Thanksgiving episode is taken into account. The episode also saw the biggest drop apart from the week of the Thanksgiving episode. The Thanksgiving episode will likely be treated as a special for The CW, so will be taken out of the averages. However, Episode 12’s ratings will definitely be considered.

The last episode to come close to this week’s ratings as Episode 5, “Advanced Thanatology,” which also saw the return of a previously dead character. Dean came face-to-face with Billie the Reaper, who was promoted to Death.

Does this mean danger? Well not quite yet. The overall average for Supernatural Season 13 compared to Season 12 is up by 7.10%. While the demo is down, it’s only by 0.39% and this takes the Thanksgiving episode into account. If the Thanksgiving episode wasn’t considered, the demo average would sit at 0.62 and sit a little up from Season 12. The total audience would sit at 1.844, which is good for The CW network.

While there isn’t need to panic yet, that doesn’t mean you can get complacent. Now is the time to prove to The CW that you want the series to be renewed. Try to watch it live or on the same day each week and don’t forget to share your thoughts on social media.
