Could Ketch be your Supernatural guilty pleasure?

When Ketch first came into Supernatural during Season 12, he was part of the much hated British Men of Letters. We all hated them, Ketch included, and there was certainly no love lost when the American hunters took a stand and pretty much wiped them out.

We are into Season 13 now and while The British Men of Letters are gone, Ketch is not. Back from the dead (thanks to some sneaky witchcraft) Ketch is still kicking and causing some amount of a headache for Sam and Dean.

And you know what? It’s great.

The British Men of Letters can stay where they are. Dead and lying in some ditch somewhere. But Ketch can stay. Despite his association with The British Men of Letters and all of the sketchy things he has done in the past. It is great to have him back on screen.

Ketch is Supernatural’s guilty pleasure.

You can’t help but love him

Yes, Ketch is slightly sadistic; yes he tried to kill Sam and Dean; yes he did a lot of terrible things and is working for Asmodeus now. But we can overlook all of that because he is just too damn funny on screen, especially with Sam and Dean.

It doesn’t matter who Ketch goes up against. He has this awesome sense of wit and humor about him. Whether it’s monsters, demons, devils, angels, humans or worse, Ketch has always managed to be funny no matter the situation.

And when he is with Sam or Dean the humor is off the charts, as you get that impression that Ketch just bugs the hell out of Sam and especially Dean at being so good at what he does. And you just can’t help but laugh.

For example, when Ketch was locked in the boot of Baby and got out, Sam and Dean asked how on earth he managed to escape. Ketch, being Ketch, replies on;

"‘I’m Ketch!’"

This deadpan response with the slight shrug of the shoulders makes you laugh out loud, and looks of frustration on Sam and Dean’s faces make you laugh even harder. It is moments exactly like these that makes Ketch Supernatural’s guilty pleasure.

In some small way, he is fast becoming our new Crowley and Lucifer. You shouldn’t like him, he is technically the bad guy, but you can’t help but love.

Also, David Haydn-Jones is a wonderful person and a brilliant actor, so that helps.
