Everything we know about The Magicians Season 3 musical episode so far
The Magicians is doing another musical episode and it’s bigger than previous seasons.
The Magicians Season 3 just keeps getting better. And finally, the one event we all hoped for is coming up in two weeks. Yes, it’s all about the musical episode.
While fans weren’t entirely sure that this was going to happen, the news of a musical episode definitely comes as no surprise. Nor does the news that this will be the biggest musical episode yet! After Season 1’s short Taylor Swift number and the epic Les Miserables showstopper in Season 2, Season 3 was going to have to take a jump.

Here’s a look at everything we know so far about the musical episode.
It’s on in two weeks
There isn’t long to wait for The Magicians Season 3 musical. It’s Episode 9, which airs on March 7. This has to be the sub-genre showrunner John McNamara hinted at for this particular episode. After all, McNamara has been a Broadway musical fanatic since he was 17 years old. With that information in mind, it’s certainly not surprising that he was looking forward to this.
Jade Tailor will perform a number
The last two musicals have been excellent, but mostly focused on the men of the show. Jason Ralph performed the first number, with Hale Appleman taking the main role in the second. Sure, the female cast members got a shot, but it’s mostly been about the men of the series. The Magicians Season 3 will opt for a different tactic.
Jade Tailor (Kady) will sing Gypsy’s “All I Need Is the Girl.” The song’s lyrics will be changed to “All I Need Is the Boy,” a hint that this is going to be about Penny. Interestingly, McNamara wanted to use the song once he learned that Stephen Sondheim wrote alternate lyrics for women. The introduction to lease the song wasn’t great, but it all worked out in the end.

There will be a Queen/Bowie tribute
“Under Pressure” is definitely one song to look out for. It will feature the whole cast and is a beautiful tribute to Freddie Mercury and David Bowie. This is one of those that has a sneak peek, so definitely worth catching below.
There are two other songs
As well as the two already mentioned, there will be two more songs in The Magicians Season 3 musical. There are no details at all on the two of them, but this is going to be extremely exciting for those who loved the first two musical episodes.
It’s not clear who will sing the other musical numbers, but the whole cast has proven their talents in “Under Pressure.”
It’s going to become the musical to beat in 2018
Quite honestly, the “One Day More” musical was one difficult number to beat in 2017 and now this episode is already proving difficult for other shows to beat. It’s clear that the numbers aren’t just about adding something different for an episode. They’re about telling the story through song, and it’s already clear that the particular songs chosen are going to bring out the emotion in the upcoming episodes.
Out of all the musical episodes, this has a Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode feel to it and that’s going to be awesome!
