What if: A look at alternate versions of Bob's Burgers #3

Last week, the Belchers were cannibals. For this week’s Bob’s Burgers What If?, it’s time to see what happened if they didn’t end up where they are now.

With the Olympics wrapping up today, it’s almost time for Bob’s Burgers to come back. The Belchers aren’t back yet so let’s look at one more alternate version of the show. The last two weeks, the focus has been on changes made from the show’s original pilot.

Much like the previous “what ifs,” this question is a little far-fetched. While the previous ones were focused on the show’s original concept and pilot, this one would have changed the show entirely. Instead of looking at the show, this week’s “what if” focuses on if the show hasn’t aired on Fox.

Bob’s Burgers has become one of Fox’s most popular shows. The Belchers are among some of the most beloved cartoon families. It’s hard to imagine them making a home anywhere else but what if the show had aired Adult Swim? Given Loren Bouchard’s history with the network, there’s no reason to believe it wasn’t shopped around there.

Let’s go back to a time before Bob’s Burgers. Before creating Bob’s Burgers, Loren Bouchard produced multiple shows for Adult Swim. Home Movies and Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil are more cult classics, but still relatively good shows.

If Bouchard had shopped his original Bob’s Burgers concept to Adult Swim, they would have loved it. We would have gotten a world where the Belchers were cannibals and the plot would be a lot darker. Long gone would be the days of Tina’s love for boys and butts but instead, we’d be hearing about murders and death.

For Louise, that might sound like fun. For fans of the show now, it seems incredibly terrifying but oddly funny. One element the show would have is music. Sweeney Todd is the perfect example of missing musical theatre and cannibalism. The same could have been done for the Belchers on Adult Swim.

Sadly, the show probably wouldn’t be as popular. Like I mentioned above, Adult Swim is more for cult classics so they aren’t always appreciated. The same could happen to Bob’s Burgers and there wouldn’t be such a huge and awesome fanbase.

If Bob’s Burgers had aired on Adult Swim, it would be a lot darker but still have that special twist only Bouchard could put on it. Then again, it’s hard to imagine the show airing on any other place beside Fox.

It’d be a little tough to switch networks just for an episode. However, the good thing is Adult Swim does air Bob’s Burgers reruns almost every night. Even if it’s not the Adult Swim version, at least they’re airing the show. Maybe, we’ll even see a future show from Loren Bouchard back on Adult Swim.
