From executive producer Conan O’Brien comes the new sci-fi animated comedy Final Space on TBS. With the first three episodes having been released early online, the question is whether or not it’s any good.

Is TBS’ Final Space any good? The short answer is yes. Now let me tell you why.

It has been a while since an adult-targeted animated series has grabbed my attention so fast as Final Space has. The show is really funny without relying on immature humor or gross gags. Despite its current season order of 10 episodes, I’m eagerly looking forward to what will happen next in the coming episodes and, hopefully, beyond.

More from Comedy

Final Space‘s protagonist, Gary Space (voiced by series creator and industry newcomer Olan Rogers), has gotten himself in deep trouble after an attempt to impress spaceship pilot, and genius mathematician, Quinn (voiced by Ride Along 2 star Tika Sumpter) goes horribly, and hilariously, wrong. Due to the nature of his mistake, Gary is sentenced to serve time in space doing maintenance on satellites.

With HUE, the onboard supercomputer, KVN, and an arsenal of other robots as his only companions, Gary is relieved and delighted when a cute green alien, which he names Mooncake, arrives unannounced. What he doesn’t know is that Mooncake is actually E-351, an organism with the power to destroy entire planets. Searching for this deceivingly deadly being is Lord Commander (voiced with an extreme amount of gravitas by former Doctor Who star David Tennant), with the intention of using Mooncake for his own gain.

At times, Final Space reminds me of what a comedy set in the Star Wars universe would look like. This show is for people who enjoy other adult animated programs like Rick and Morty, Superjail!, or Futurama. Featuring characters voiced by Fred Armisen (Portlandia) and Shannon Purser (Barb from Stranger Things), Final Space is a promising new show.
