Jim Gordon finally finds Harvey Bullock and makes him an offer to come to the GCPD, but will Harvey take the invite on Gotham.

“I miss you.”

Those three words hit like a gut punch when Jim Gordon told his best friend and former partner Harvey Bullock that while placing his badge on the bar top in Thursday’s episode of Gotham.

More from FOX

Jim and Harvey have been on the outs since Jim ousted him as captain. But Harvey isn’t angry because he was booted from the job – he always knew that would happen. It was the way it happened. It was that his friend Jim didn’t trust him enough to tell him the truth – the only way he got the position was through manipulation from Sofia Falcone.

Instead Jim acted better than everyone; acted as though he was took his rightful place as captain since he seems to be the only one who cares about Gotham City. But in truth, Jim’s rise to the captaincy was just as corrupt as any other appointment in Gotham.

His righteous attitude – Jim’s biggest flaw – finally manifested to hurt those closest to him. Harvey wants nothing to do with him, telling Jim he has no intention in listening to Jim’s confessions. Lee didn’t tell Jim she came back to Gotham to atone for her sins while working in the Narrows.

Jim is stuck under the thumb of Sofia Falcone and he only has himself to blame for the damage in his life.

He cares. There is no doubt that Jim cares about Gotham and wants to rid the city of the evil that resides there.

But he can’t do it alone, and that’s where he falls short. Rather than trusting those closest to him – Harvey, Lee, etc., – he pushes them away until there is nearly nothing left to salvage. He comes crawling back when its nearly too late. (I write ‘nearly’ because I hope he can and Harvey can make amends. Their friendship is one of the best parts of Gotham.)

Jim, we all miss Harvey. Even though he is flawed and corrupt, he was allowed to be because he kept Jim in line. They made each other better people. Harvey did terrible things like taking Penguin’s money, but Jim was always the moral compass.

What happens when the moral compass of the team becomes morally corrupted?

Broken rules. Lies. Chaos.

Until Jim can right his wrongs, Gotham’s battles will be nothing like the one that is raging inside of Jim right now.

Tune into Gotham on Thursdays on Fox at 8/7c.
