The Winchesters deal with monsters and a priest to find the blood of a most holy man on Supernatural.

It’s a case of being passed from one person to another in the search for the blood of a most holy man. That’s the ingredient the Winchesters are after, while Cass goes after another in Syria.

There were certainly plenty of iZombie Easter eggs (although likely unintentional) and it definitely had a different feel. There was a sense of the 60s “who done it” series feel. These points are a win for the episode, but I will say it wasn’t one of my favorites (although definitely not one of the worst).

More from Supernatural

While the episode was focused on getting an ingredient, it wasn’t the most plot heavy. I’ll do this recap a little different with a series of bullet points to cover the important points.

  • It’s all about getting the blood of the most holy man, which Sam believes is another term for a saint. He just happens to find the black market for religious artifacts online. The internet is for more than porn now.
  • The Winchesters find themselves in the middle of trouble between two mobs. Dean certainly isn’t afraid to get sassy with one of the mob bosses but the Winchesters find themselves doing the mob boss’ bidding.

  • Sam gets hit over the head by a priest, who happens to be searching for the same thing the Winchesters are. After he shares how the world isn’t perfect but the skull was important to him, Sam decides to get the skull back from him. That means double crossing the mobsters.
  • Of course, everyone is double crossing everyone. The girl steals from the guy, while stole from the guy, who stole from the guy, who…you get the idea. Oh, and the girl doesn’t live for long!
  • The issue with the skull the Winchesters have been trying to steal back ends in a gunfight and it turns out the first guy lied to them (surprise, surprise). The blood doesn’t exist.
  • Only the blood does. The priest that met was grazed in the shoot out. It’s no coincidence that he was there as the events played out. He is their most holy man.

In the end, Sam and Dean admit together they’d like to stop playing defense; bring and end to all the monsters and ghosts. But for now they have one out of three spell ingredients. There’s still work to do.

Overall it was a risk with re filming. If you love noir, you may have loved the episode. For me, this was one of the weaker episodes of the season but I certainly respect Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb for the risk taken. It just wasn’t for me.
