5 Questions raised by the Avengers: Infinity War EW Covers

The latest double-issue of Entertainment Weekly has every fun buzzing, namely because it shows off all the main characters in Avengers: Infinity War. At the same time, the images hold some subtle clues towards the secretive plot.

More from Marvel Movies

While more and more clues are becoming available with every passing day, details surrounding Avengers: Infinity War are still scarce. The good news is that with the film’s debut fast approaching, more revealing images are staring to come to light; the EW covers being perfect examples.

Now, there’s nothing extremely important about these images but the small points therein definitely merit some acknowledgment. Because let’s face it, everything in the MCU has a purpose. Whether it’s now or in the future, no detail should go unnoticed. In lieu of that, we’ve compiled a list of new questions we have after breaking down the EW covers.

Did Thanos destroy the Nova Corps?

Unless you were really paying attention, you probably looked over the fact that Thanos has the Power Stone in his possession when he lands on Earth. This means Thanos managed to wrestle it from the Nova Corps. They were in possession of the stone at the end of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.1 and it was supposed to be with them. But seeing Thanos with the stone means he or one of his subordinates paid Xandar a visit. Whoever it is, they more than likely killed their fair share of Nova Corps—if not the whole battalion. It’s happened in the comics, which means there’s nothing stopping it from happening in the MCU, too.

Is Richard Rider secretly joining Avengers: Infinity War?

A separate concern raised by Thanos wielding the Power Stone is the fate of the Xandar. As mentioned above, Thanos’ visit to the planet could potentially see the Nova Corps all but wiped out. In that scenario, Richard Rider could be introduced.

In the comics, a similar event took place wherein Zorr destroyed Xandar and eliminated all of the Nova Corps. After that, Rhoman Dey had no choice but to pass the mantle of Nova Prime on to a worthy successor, Richard Rider. In the comics, Xandar’s destruction was followed by Rider being granted all of Nova Prime’s powers. If Thanos’ destruction of Xandar is the MCU equivalent of Zorr destroying the planet, Rider could be on his way.

While neither Richard Rider or a feasible addition hah been listed in the credits for Avengers: Infinity War, there is a chance Xandar’s destruction will lead into a post-credits sequence involving Richard Rider. The Universe’s comic side will receive further exploration in GOTG3, so Rider entering the fold is quite plausible. Though, we still don’t know if Rider will ever make his way into the universe.

Does War Machine have Bleeding Edge, too?

Aside from the miraculous recovery Rhodes will make, the new armor he’s wearing of some intrigue as well. The reason Rhodes’ armor is of interest is because it’s quite similar to Iron Man’s new Bleeding Edge. That suit is powered by multiple arc reactors, including individual ones placed in the legs. Rhodes’ armor being of a similar design could mean his new suit is a variant of Bleeding Edge. Plus, the use of this tech would grant Rhodes’ the ability to walk again, giving reason to how he’s up and running again.

Why does Iron Man need additional jet boosters?

The jet boosters for Iron Man’s Bleeding Edge has us wondering what he could need them for. Some of Stark’s older model armors are capable of reaching mach speeds, which means he must needs these attachments for a specific purpose. It could be for faster flight or possess a weapon’s function but based on the location of Avengers: Infinity War, they may be used for a space fight.

We all know Thanos will invade Earth but he’s also going to spend a fair amount of time in space gathering the rest of the stones. Because of that, the Avengers could be forced into space to stop him. If that’s the case, Iron Man’s jet boosters may be the only thing keeping them the Mad Titan from escaping the planet with all the stones in hand. Of course, Tony might just use the amazing speed produced by them to get the upper hand on Thanos.

Who tore Cap’s suit?

Even though a clear look at Cap’s suit in Infinity War has revealed it to be similar to his Civil War costume, one particular detail has gone unnoticed—and it isn’t the color. It’s actually the tears around the star on Cap’s suit that has us all perplexed. No other damage to the suit can be seen, meaning this detail holds significance. There’s no telling what caused the damage to Cap’s suit but, reasonably speaking, they were likely caused by Proxima Midnight. The Infinity War trailer teased their upcoming confrontation, which may be the proof we need to confirm her involvement. That being said, Cap might just receive a whole new uniform altogether. He is getting a Vibranium shield from Wakanda after all.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on April 27, 2018.
